Wow some of my main money keywords that were bringing in 1k a month all went from top 3 to not in top 300. EMD site

Mother god! My main two money site that were ranking on first pages for hundred's of keywords are all gone'!! Not in the top 1000! Am finish but not giving up. Google keep it rolling! I will get stronger.

So many people seem to be getting hit by this. I'm curious if the "low quality" actually is referring to links rather than content. Got off the EMD train during first panda. Thank god.

ever since d-day on 25th april every google update has helped me - I actually kinda find myself looking forward to them now.

(although I'm still only at about 90% of where I was on the 24th April!)

I was kind of thinking the same thing, but not the way you did. I wonder if it is the lack of backlinks. For my case, 90% of the websites that were hit either didn't have or did very little backlinking in the last year.

My main site is a pr2, 24 articles +, high value content, excellent diverse backlink structure. site was 1st page for over 2 dozen terms and offering high value to readers.

Now it's page 10+ for most terms. Way to go google... you are obviously destroying my livelihood. sad

My EMDs were shaved out of the first page's ass. There's a lot of work ahead of me now.

All my main EMD sites lost ranking. This will be a big problem for us

Another confirmed case. My two EMDs are no longer rankings in google as of today. Both are still indexed, and weren't ranking highly to begin with. but the little rankings I did have are now gone.

i was ranking on 1st page before few months(before penguin) and after getting hit by penguin i am at 3-4th page and still there.. was getting 200-250UV/day and now its 10-15UV/day

What i've learnt is.. Create high authority site and don't get traffic from just google.. i've learnt PPC, emailing, video marketing, and social media to get traffic from.. yes its time taking process but this way i am not so much worried about traffic..

but yes.. As a SEO i still need to rely on google(for my 9-5 JOB atleast!).

But for my personal business i will create a site based on different traffic sources(not just F google)

Now, i really want to check those EMD services threads for more reviews/updates on EMDs..

At the risk of sounding a bit like a dick, I have very little sympathy for people with statements like "my sites, which were making $xx,000 per month all got hit".

It is not really like this is a surprise. Once you had every Tom, Dick and Harry churning out EMD sites (and particularly low quality), they were bound to go the way of MFA sites.

Seriously, if you were making that much on autopilot (which adsense is after you are ranking), you should have been investing in and building Authority sites.

And by Authority sites, I mean genuine, value adding, reader engaging Authority sites. With really great, magazine quality articles. Ones where users return. Ones that are genuinely shared socially. The sort of site that a user will add to their bookmarks and come back to weekly.

As long as Google is your sole source of traffic, you will forever be over a barrel.

Matt answered somebody's question on twitter by saying if this "goes well" that it will roll out to google.ca, and so on..

Nah, believe me it's also affected .co.uk. I can't believe how an EMD can effect every keyword it's ranking for. Obviously, your emd site should only target one keyword (unless you hyphenate long tails, etc), which is hugely unfair how it's not just a slap for one keyword, but it's a whole site slap for every keyword. Total nonsense.

One of my sites which was gaining a huge amount of traffic from google images alone was also slapped. The image was sitting at number one in g-images, for a health style graph, which is also nowhere to be seen.

I just checked ranking of my sites, around 40% of site got effected and lost page 1 rankings. As expected, EMDs sites were hit mostly.

What i also noticed that my partial EMD sites, like keywordx.com, keywordhq.com is still ranking file.

Mine from #1 to #5 today. but If something like this happens, I start to add unique content to my site. Doing that since from the morning .

I have some EMD I wanted to renew this month and some new ones I wanted to buy. This is going to save me some money but I is going to be tough now to rank well with Google. I think is time I give up on Google Adsense now!

If you're tired of G's nonsense, seriously stop using them for personal use and tell everyone you know to get away and stop clicking ads. It's the only way to put this monster in check. Use the privacy issues at the least that will get more people worried about them. They're clearly pushing big brands and their own products and they're becoming the Walmart of online.

Today I lost 2 sites:
1. EMD, blog, 6 month old, 27 posts, new 500 word post is added every week
2. Non-EMD, online store, 5 YEARS old, more than 300 products

There is nothing common between these two sites: different ip, server, age, platform, purpose.
I have hypothesis that google has some random values in their algorythm to confuse those who doing SEO. I just dont have another explain to what happens

50% of my EMD domains gone. Mostly new sites that in mixing up the achor text ended up with more spammy link profile. My old EMDs which 6 sites page 1 for my keywords all ok haven't backlinked these sites since penguin. Doubt if theres going to be anyway of recovering these sites lifes a Google bitch

I have 5 smallish (10-25 post) emds all pr3 - pr4, 3 of which have google ads and 2 of which dont, the 3 with ads tanked the 2 without stayed the same.

All 5 of them have very similar (nearly exact) backlink profiles, the 3 sites that tanked I had spent much more time on adding images, videos, premium themes and making everything look pretty, the 2 without have nothing just articles posted on free themes with tags and categories. Doesn't seem like a low quality update seems like lets screw anyone trying to earn money update.

I don't have any EMDs, mine are all PMDs, and about 60% got hit. All on same server, all really good content, loads of good pages. Definitely not spammy sites at all.

Link diversity is what springs to mind at the moment as possible cause.

I had three EMDs with more than 50 articles each, lot of different good backlinks, and they are all disappeared now.

What I really don't get is how a competitor EMD with a different domain is still ranking in good position with just an Iframe!

Can't see anything yet... it would be good for the people are saying they have been hit to give a bit more info about there website e.g. content/backlink building strategy so maybe you can conclude the trigger of this algo update?

EMD was and were a good thing since when you link with your domain name you link with anchors too.
Another facet was a boost in ranking power back then. I assume this privilege is still given however:

I will Never build and EMD.
I will Try to rank page for the keyword not the homepage.
I will never use wordpress on sites. I will buy script for sites.
I will never use comments as backlinks.

I will give relevant contextual backlinks from homepages and web 2.0 along with keyword diversity.

Paid Traffic with correct Ad Copy was what I told people to try out a bit ago. Seems to me only when Google punches people in the face do they even bother to listen ... LMAO, sometimes it is even more profitable than SEO (no duh!) if done right.

My website had over 400k index on Google. In so many keywords the site was ranked #1 and everyday hits were increasing. Suddenly everything turn upside down. G deleted 200k index, yesterday hit was 390. It was getting 6k hits before this thing happen. Similar things happened to my other websites too. This can never stop me, I will work harder.

Can people that were hit give more detail about the new top 10s for their keywords?

Are the new top ranking sites less relevant (like for a 3 keyword search phrase, do the top sites only mention 1 or 2 of the keywords now?). Have youtube, YA, howstuffworks, livestrong, etc. pages taken over? Does it appear random, with other EMDs of equal or poorer quality to yours ranking? Has the top 10 improved?

2 of my sites were definitely hit, but everything else is intact. I have EMDs, PMDs, and branded domains still ranking, but the two that were hit were EMDs. After Panda I put more money into content, so longer articles and more of them, and less keyword dense, and my offsite links are diverse. None of my sites use adsense, I'd be interested in knowing how many that got hit had adsense up. What we first need to find out is if this was an offsite or onsite thing, or both.
