The job is up for an hour and I come back to 87 new applicants.... think penguin put some SEO VA's out of business?

My tip: don't hire Indians. Hire Filipinos if you can.

My tip, this guy is a moron.

My other tip, is to communicate, verify the applicant, and make sure the proper job will be done prior to hiring, so you will have a easy time.

oDesk is a excellent place to market your work, or hire other people to do work.

My Tip: carefully look for a good provider, and when you have found one, stick to it... that is very very difficult to find a serious one.

Looks like you might need to post another job for a freelancer to go through all the applicants for the first one!

Yeah, I'm sure you know how to screen applicants. For every handful of bad apples there is a good one. As for examples, and ask them to explain step by step how they would fulfill your goals. You don't want to go cheap on link building, that's how you'll end up with the bad kind of links.

Another reason can be that people are getting more inclined toward IM lately.Hence this creating the flow.
B very careful while selecting.I once had bad experiencing with Odesk specially for content writing. The person I assigned the work did the exact opposite whihc I expected him to do.

My tip - Set your expectations straight and explain, explain and explain, your project or work to whatever contractor you are using. Don't hesitate to use meta workers to sync in between to workers for the same job, e.g. like programming or design. It works.

Don't give peanuts and expect people to lift mountain. Recession is making lives harder, don't slap on face of people with peanuts and then make comment like "don't hire guys from X or Y region". It will take few months to see how evern pinoys are struggling to keep up with peanut rewards and then comment will be something like "Don't hire indians or pinoys, hire bangladeshi's". Then the goal post will move to another countries low cost labor.

That's stupid. I've been to India, met some lovely people. And I currently work with a Filipino writer, great guy.

Thanks to the rest. Hiring a writer wasn't too hard, but judging the seo 'experts' might take a little more time.

Not Indian, but I want to say my experience with Indians.

A guy I outsource all coding to, is Indian, and always does great work, he lets me choose the price (Crazy right?) and I've been using him for 3+ Years, non-stop, he is always there, doesn't matter if there's a holiday or not, he will do the work.

I've worked with other Indians (recently for sending out mails/offers) and they have over delivered.

I find Indians hard working and stepping out of the line to over-deliver/help.
Yes there are bad Indian Workers, but there are bad workers from every country, same thing goes for good workers.

Yes SEO has kicked people out of the game, they don't want to adapt which is a mistake.

My best/worst (not sure) oDesk experience :

I hired a VA to 'rewrite' 30 articles. I sent her 30 articles.

I checked her work next day, she delivered me the same articles exactly. I ask her, she said she did what I specified.

I viewed her work diary - the genius had 2 MS-Word windows open side by side; and she was re typing the articles.

Ah ah simply amazing :p

My tip after looking through these seo'ers.... if you see someone with high feedback scores actually check the person that hired them and see what other jobs they've given feedback to. I'm seeing tons of "U.S." feedback from people that have posted 40 or 50 jobs all under the same title and given every provider five stars.

LOL @ ppl calling me a racist when they're the ones who are racists!!! I said don't hire Indians not because I am racist but because Filipinos always charge lower while producing the same work! Race has nothing to do with what I said but all has to do with $$$. STOP misinterpreting me and putting words in my mouth! Do you really think there's a million way of signing up to Wordpress blog? Hell, no! You do it the exact same way every time! The only difference is one person charges $5 to do it while another charges $1! If it were the other way around then I'd say hire Indians instead.

Shame on ALL OF YOU above for being the true racists! You guys can't think of another reason so you played the race card. Tsk, tsk...

Thank you so much for the chuckle. Working long hours at the store so humor is welcome.
