Is Dup Content on my Web 2.0 Blogs OK or Not?

So, I'm building a bunch of web 2.0 and .edu blogs to use for relevant articles and backlinks to my site.
From what I've read, the dup content penalty only applies to dup content on my own site.
If this is true, can I use dup content articles on all my feeder blogs or should I spin the articles?

I wouldn't use dup if it were me...

Quality unique content on both sites is the way to go....... No gain without pain...

You can whack some dup stuff up but you may pay for it in the long term with future updates.

You can at least spin your content in any auto spinner.

You should spin your content before using them

There's a few options you can do rather then using duplicate content.


Option 1 - Use only unique content, this could be simply just scraping a article and rewriting it, to reflect a unique article. = Bigger effects on ranking.... Google loves unique!

Option 2 - Use spun content, spin it to make it a percentage unique or spin it to be unique and unreadable, but in googles eyes it'll only see unique content. = Also gives a good boost, but not like unique content.

Option 3 - Use encoding, there a plenty of encoding softwares out there. Scrape an article and encode a few stop words to make it unique. = Seen some results by this method.

There's your obvious 3 options...

Option 1 gaurentee's you no future problems and a bigger serp boost, but will take time to do.

You can use duplicate content, but it counts for a whole lot less. IMO it's not really worth it at all.

Set up a test of your own to see it for yourself.

Duplicate content makes it a shit ton harder to get the stuff indexed so remember that and consider that when you are building out these type of web 2.0 with duplicate content.

at the very least try and build in some spun content AND some original content as an intro to that. spun content is also somewhat hard but by building in the original content will help get that stuff indexed easily.

I use all unique content now. I also build the web2.0 up with more unique content. Lots of happy clients on the long term front of rankings

I did a test on this an it still ranks a site. 40 properties built with a copy paste from ezine. Will it work in the future, that is something we don't know.

Do = Quality work with unique content - or - Do = Nothing.

if you are targetting adsense then never use dup content

one technique as i mentioned before is to use spun/duplicate content but then have a quick intro/conclusion written.

that helps google think that its somewhat original content and will help the indexing of the pages, but overall try and use unique content.

As mentioned. You will not receive dupe penalty as that's just for your site content. Same content on many sites is simply syndication. But original content is readily index able and gives a whole lot more authority and link juice to your target site. Manually spin your original articles at the word and sentence and if you want paragraph level. You can use that same 1 article about 30 times, and still get indexed.

That's called syndicated content. Yes you can use it. News orgs do it all the time. Duplicate content is identical, or near identical content on your own website.

The fears of 'Duplicate Content OMFG' is the most overrated thing in the SEO world.
Hell, one method is to post an Article on GoArticle and just have a bunch of sites use the article word for word- that's the whole *point* of GoArticle.

If your source of the article is authoritative enough, then it would be fine. The only thing is that you won't get much link juice from the duplicate sites since they are obviously using it from a source, only the Patient 0 site will give decent backlinks to your website.

Anyway, if you want a fast and easy way to reuse content, I suggest writing 'response' pieces to the Master article. Break a few paragraphs from the master article each using the following HTML:


So a generic response article would be like this:

A new blog post from yourdomain.com on dog traning was recently published outlining some cool thoughts on the subject. Read the full article here

Etc. Basically any paragraph in the blockquotes shouldn't be crawled by the google spiders, only adding a citation to the original article source. If you plan to automate this, be wary. Always do multi-sentence and multi-paragraph spintax, meaning that different version of the spun article could produce short to long copy if nested spintax properly. Ie:

{This is a spun paragraph of {50 | 100} words. {This is the second paragraph which will only appear 50% of the time. {This is the third paragraph which will appear 25% of the time and only if the second paragraph appear | } |}}

To these for each paragraph for each quoted piece of text and you'll be sweet. This is easier to do manually for qualitative purposes, but if you want to automate this is definitely an option.
