How to upload a torrent?

I know how to add it to the seeders list inside bit torrent but nothing seems to upload from it. Is it because it's not connected with anything on the torrent websites? I'm trying to upload exactly what I downloaded without changing the folder name but if I did change the original folder name would it matter? Other torrents upload as they download or when their finished, it's only when I try to add it by creating a torrent. Also, the network tests prove okay. Any ideas? Thanks.
