Have I found a decent keyword?
Hello, so, after deciding to do some proper research after reading lots of info from this forum, I think I have found a decent niche. Search 5,000 a month, CPC decent, could anyone with more experience tell me if this is worth buying the EMD? If not, what am I researching wrongly?

Thanks in advance, just don't want to waste my money again!

The problem is I don't think anyone here can. The problem is that we require anonymity, and without knowing how targeted the traffic is to your site, how long-tail (specific) the keyword is, how your site is set up in terms of quality, marketing, etc., there's probably very little chance of giving you an accurate assessment.
I'm sorry, and I feel bad saying this, because I know I would personally HATE to be told this when I'm in a time of need looking for answers, and maybe someone else on the forum with more experience has a better answer than me, but I think the anonymity barrier makes it difficult for us to help you because of all the specifics involved in success in this situation.

Re: Have I found a decent keyword?
Hey, thanks for your reply. I guess what I meant to say, is that with decent on site seo and off site, would it be easy to get on the first page.
However, you make a lot of sense, and I appreciate your reply! Back to learning!

First check how many anchored backlinks your competitor has (backlinks pointing to their page with the anchor text keyword.
1) Search your keyword on Google and take the first result.
2) Copy the url to your clipboard
3) Go to Blekko, and paste the URL in the search box, and at the end put "/seo" to see a full seo rundown of the competitor's site.
Traffic isn't necessarily equal to competition... you want to see how many backlinks (preferably check PR's too from those backlinks) your competitors have, and this will give you an idea of how easy or hard it will be to overshoot them.

Re: Have I found a decent keyword?
If you're comfortable doing so, PM me the keyword you're thinking about and I'll look into it a little further and give you my opinion. I have the day off so I can take a look at it.
I'm not nieve though and realise that you may be uncomfortable/untrusting in doing so, so if you decline I certainly won't be offended. I just thought I'd extend the offer
I've been in the same boat - I bought 6 domain names that are doing NOTHING before someone taught me about proper keywork research/competition analysis - so I feel where you're coming from and how hesitant it can be trying to decide if you've found a winner or not.
Cheers.

Re: Have I found a decent keyword?
You can also download the free version of Traffic Travis and check competition for your keyword. Gives an basic idea how of how it is to rank top 5.
Also check the top 10 results in G manually to get overall idea of how the competition sites look like.

Re: Have I found a decent keyword?
You can use sem rush to get some decent research of how easy it would be to rank by checking competitors sites or tools like SEO Power suite
