I don't know. I'm starting to honestly question whether or not PR, Age, Backlinks, or Authority (Edu/Gov) backlinks even matter.

(My site @ #10)

It's been like this for about a month now.

I beg to differ. No all links carry the same power, even if they have same pr, age, authority. I believe (I say believe because I don't know google's algo) that contextual links have the most power. Google will know what you are targeting much better if the text surrounding your anchor text is relevant. The more relevant, the better.

At first glance, I know it doesn't stack up...

Different links can carry a lot of different weight, but I wouldn't expect content relevancy to have any effect here.

Are you sure you haven't been penalised on that search term?

If you've got a ton of indexed lower quality links and top spot holders are ballin' high PR HPBL's it's a whole nother game.

I hope you've done some research on their links?

Of course I have, but all of their backlinks didn't seem tohave much authority at all (low PR, newly created domains, etc.)

We've been at this point for about 3 weeks now, and we were originally ranking #3rd. I don't think we did his any penelties, but I guess anything is possible?

That's the thing though, I have 28 edu/gov backlinks, whereas the 9 ranking ahead of me all had much less. Edu/gov links carry a ton of power.

As insignificant as it may sound... look deeply into on-page factors. Content length, video, images (alt tags) often somethings go right under the radar. Social metrics could help a great deal as well: likes, views, +1s.

your problem is probably that your links are crappy.
ya you have more links but that dont mean anything.

what is your bounce rate?

You should concentrate more on quality other than quantinity, I believe that's your problem.
