I'm somehow afraid of losing all my passwords and account details so today I've deceided to secure my computer because I think I will die if something happens to my login details. You know how simple is to get passwords stolen? Simply if you have passwords storaged in Mozilla Password remember you are vulnerable - for example if you ever open a file infected with a stealer all your passwords and other important informations are sent to a third party (the stealer ).

I'm trying to find the best free or paid software to protect (antivirus, firewall etc. everything is needed).

How do you protect your passwords?

Well, there is of course Zone alarm, AVG, Ccleaner, Spybot and keeping all email web based. Any file that can be sent on MSN can be mailed too.
You can use any other software with good reviews to replace any software I suggested.

It is not a bad idea to use online services like Housecall to check your computer from time to time either.

If you want more security you might consider not using hacked software in your Windows setup and switching to another OS like Ubuntu for use on important things like banking and such. You can still get hacked, but it is harder and usually requires your help.

Some people like to go wireless for some reason. This is not a real improvement on security even if you use WPA2 and use a 20 character pass that is changed every month.
Using such passwords would improve security greatly but I would still not call it safe. It would be safe enough for normal circumstances but if the right resources are available like a decent botnet they will get in eventually.

For me Avast is best thanks to its exceptional Update System.

I think no one can beat Avast with its update system.Also,good interface and tons of features.

Yes that's for me too.Avast updates so regularly and so fast, it wont even allow me open an infected page.I also use spyware terminator , and a key scrambler.

May I be really blunt here? A full fledged vm like VirtualBox or VMWare is your best "antivirus". The degree of sophistication of current fuds and infection vectors makes relatively trivial to work a way around an av, no matter how good it is.

I'd recommend executing any "questionable" program downloaded off some non 100% legit source inside a virtual machine if security is a concern. HTH

I have Avast but recently Bitdefender won another prize for best antivirus "Best Protection 2011" + they defended the US Army from a big virus a few days ago

i never tried Bitdefender but i might after this

I'm sure others have already listed it, but I've used AVG for the past 4-6 years on approximately 10 different computers, always great!

right man, if anyone have a crypter with a new stub, no av in the whole world can detect it.

best tool to scan or analys is a sandbox or virtualbox

I think kaspersky or ESET for antivirus. Online Armor for Firewall protection. Those are my suggestions for PAID software.

For free anti virus I would use Avast or AVG, they both have a decent heuristics scan engine. Now for firewall, hands down for free I would go with Zone Alarm Free Firewall.

Yes, Avast is the best!

Been using ESET all in one corporate edition myself and I find it pretty good.

I have tried a few and found Kaspersky Internet Security to be the best of them all.

guys i was in hacking touch 3 years ago. for hackers /crackers /stealers Avira is the most hardest antivirus to bypass . so my recommendation for Avira

I use Avast. I have for like 10 years. Even the free software is better than most paid solutions and it isn't a "virus in-itself" like Norton and others.

bitdefender ... so far so good for me...

Banking passwords are never stored on a system. You would always need to enter a series of numbers of a pin or letters of a password each time you logged in. The system is designed as such not to ask for the whole password as to defeat screengrabbers or keyloggers.

So long as you don't have your whole password in a text file named HSBC.txt then your account(s) should be safe enough. Commit banking and other passwords where 3rd parties can get access to your money (paypal and escrow are examples) to memory never store them on your system.

As for complete and absolute protection then it probably isn't possible. If someone wants to get inside your system and they have the resources to do so then nothing you can will stop them simply slow them down.

I do a buncha seedy stuff with Avast running and it seems like every couple minutes it's blocking a trojan.

I use Avast, Malwarebytes, and CCLeaner..
Avast for real-time protection.
Marlwarebytes and CCleaner once a week.
