with the recent upsurge in programs and people selling these links I'm curious as too how much effect they have. I've recently removed them from my service as some ppl were complaining about sudden drops in rankings and the only thing i could put my finger on was the addition of these wiki media links....

but then on the flipside my own results from them have been good so i decided to throw a load of them at a new money site thats sitting at #23 now and see what effect if any this will have, I'm gonna blast it with 4k of these and see how it gos, obvsly I'm doing a lot of other diverse link building so the site has a good foundation link wise so i don't expect to be sandboxed but we will see

so any thought on the matter from personnal experience guys?

Personally, since using wiki links my sites are performing better now.

yea me too, but i've read a few posts around the forum of people getting slapped by google for using them, but then again it could be any number of factors why they got slapped, diversity is the key as any good SEO knows so these links along with a variety of others link types should be beneficial....

I have seen good things from them myself.

They got slapped because they blasted a new site with it.
All we need now is a drip feed wiki links for new sites.

Hint: Offer that option and charge extra.

I made some "experiments" with media wiki backlinks and the results were pretty good
(4000+ backlinks from 2000 unique domains with lindexed sumbission).

Medium Competition keyword
Before: 7th Spot
After 2 weeks of google dancing: 2nd Spot

High Competition keyword
Before: 15
After 1 week (still google dancing): 10

What I don't get is how can you sell a service that you do not even know works? You really should do some tests because as a seller on BHW you have responsibilities.

The wikis may work but the problem is very low index rate of wikis

What on earth are you talking about? i don't sell wikis, If you read my OP right you will see i added them into my service and have now removed them until i gather further evidence on their benefits hence this thread! BTW you can test until the cows come home son but SEO is unpredictable what works for one person may not work the same for the next........

You mentioned that you stopped selling them as people were complaining. Am I missing something? that's what on earth i am talking about.

WOW thats a big blast, I usually just post to 60-200 wiki's at a time to various pages, but then most of the sites I point to are pretty new. One is just a month old and yes I did some other linkbuilding but the wiki's did not hurt it.

Have seen mixed results with this type of linking. Had some bad feedback from wiki owners about their sites being spammed too.

One problem is the level of Pharma and porn links...

Many wiki's have been blasted to bejeezus by them, which could make them look like bad neighbourhoods to G. I found one site that was getting 2,000 posts per day - 95% pharma spam (i.e. 10-30 links per post etc.) This doesn't look good!

Just be careful that the wiki sites are reasonably 'clean'.

nah you have puck me up wrong i never sold them, i included them in my package but removed them after 1 week because 2 guys dropped rankings it was an easy choice remove the last thing added until i could gather more evidence to show if they were the cause or not.....

see I'm quick on the ball like that, after all i do have a responsibility to my clients i do agree with you though they are good links and once I'm sure it wasn't them that caused the drop in 2 out of over 50 clients I'll re-add them, better safe than sorry......

yea mate well this is it isn't it, but your going to get that with lots of link types well any that can be created in quick mass like this.

I am experimenting with these links (as well as other wiki types) too. Currently using them to blast money sites directly, as well as just web 2.0 links, social network links from SENUKE as well as various other combinations.

The thing I am pissed of is this one: None software I have found for the wikis has a manual option to spun the username. Username = Title in Media Wiki for example, what means that it is very important that the username is correct.

However, the software I have at my hand and bought does either not spun Username at all or it spin it automatically, but you can not choose to what it spins it to - what is very very bad....

I believe that these links are good (partially it can be already seen from my tests), however the problem is that you have to blast them correctly, what the soft I have can not do. I believe that with a right piece of software/bot and right approach to them, they can be as powerful as anything.

What software are you using for your blasts? Or is it your own dev work?

There are services in the BHW service area, I wonder if the wiki links they provide there have any absolute effect on new sites.

All my clients are happy seeing the movements of their site in serps. And its of high potential.

Seriously, my clients are moving up from being stuck. Index rate of the wikis is so damn slow, but it is generally slow of userpage backlinks, but is ok for title page backlinks.

Yeah.. Indexing was one of the barriers we hit. They took ages, and could be very resistant; you had to really work at it. That, and deletions of course.

But when they stick - they're excellent juice.

Is Extreme WikiPoster your software? Does it have a wiki-site harvester yet?

I just submit my wikis backlinks on lindexed and i have almost 100% index rate (i'm not talking about crawl rate) . Just made a search in google inurl:User:keyword1_keyword2 and i get 5.150 results!

I threw about 600 do-follow wiki links at one of my sites and then 15,000 xrumer profiles at wikis - result was a drop of 20+ for 3 of the keywords I was targeting.

It's not something I'm going to be doing again!!

I have been using wiki's as tier 2 links, just as I use profiles and blog comments and it seems to be working well.

I would actually take that as a positive sign that the links hold some type of weight. If you dropped out of the top 1000, then I would say its a problem. But since you only dropped like 20+ I would say its a dance, and you will come back stronger.

I own a small private Wiki network and I can say that they work really well if you are already maintaining a stable Link Building velocity.

yea spot on! that's exactly my feelings on it, if you have a stable foundation of diverse links then these work wonders....

Wikis work fine but indexing rate is very poor. you need to run all wiki backlinks with 2-3 backlink indexing service to index links.

They are useless according to me atleast!

I havent had any improvements in rankings by using them.

Yes... Indexing wikis is the hardest part. They are very resistant!

But when they stick, they definitely add strong links to a diverse mix.
