Let's Start A Best Advice For Newbs Thread...

So I been reading blackhat for a while now and I feel that there are soooooooo many newbs asking misdirected questions. Basically threads expecting riches overnight, where misguided newbs often fail before they even get started. Lots of "desperation" threads, unrealistic expectations, and downright people asking to get spoon fed.

As someone who has made his living for the past 6 years doing this, I decided I'd start a thread (and hope others would contribute) advice that maybe those who are new to IM could benefit from.

So I'll start please feel free to add.

Tip #1: GET A DAY JOB FIRST

I see a lot of people who are new to IM coming here saying "I'm broke and need money, how do I get rich". Well the first thing you need is a real job. To make it in IM it takes a while as well as some money to get started. Software, captchas, proxies, domains, hosting etc. can add up pretty quickly. You're not gonna make anything when you first start, and you definitely shouldn't expect to be able to pay your bills with it.

So the first thing you need to do if you are new to IM is get a real job, learn the ropes, build up your money and eventually dive in full time if you begin to do well.

Tip #2: FOCUS ON ONE ASPECT OF IM AND THEN MOVE ON

When I first started IM I would jump around from idea to idea. Whether it was Adsense, CPA, Amazon, etc. or Article Marketing, PPC etc I would jump from idea to idea never really dedicating any time to one project or mastering it. I ended up half-assing a lot of things that got me nowhere quick.

So my advice here would be pick an aspect of IM, master it, make some cash, and then expand.

Tip #3: ALWAYS EXPERIMENT ON YOUR OWN

In IM and especially the SEO aspect of it there is a lot of misinformation. Just because some guru tells you something works or doesn't work doesn't mean that it is true. Take everything you read with a grain of salt, and split test on your own.

I feel sometimes people just take things they read to be truth and thus miss a lot of amazing opportunities. Experiment on your own and find out for yourself. That is the only way you will learn.

I will add some other ideas later but would like to see what others say. Hopefully these will help some newbs to IM get started.

Totally agree with the day job thing. I started out in IM soooo long ago and I had to get a job at krogers for a few months to start building up my IM career. For the newbs out there who are not old enough to get a job in your state then go from house to house in the winter and offer snow shoveling and in the summer offer lawm mowing, it might sound crazy but hey when I was younger and did this I was banking some good money each week. Dont complain about having to get a day job either because it is what is going to add to your funds each week. Hell im my own millionaire from IM but it was not easy to get to this point and I still work a job just because I enjoy working.

The reason why most newbies remain newbies is because they only read threads with titles like "make 1000 a day without doing hardly any work" or "$15000 a month, no investment needed"

Too many people expect things to just be handed over on a plate, 99% of the time, this just wont happen. People need to spend time reading and piecing bits of information together, adding your own twist to a method is always best, avoid copycat tactics. If 1 guy is doing it then 100 guys will be doing it, this just means a smaller market share for everybody.

Good thread.

This morning I woke up and thought now that it is the new year I have to stop spending hours reading threads and actually start doing something. I have started a 2012 IM journey thread and have detailed there the small amount of experience I have but I am hoping that updating that thread will keep me motivated to learn the things that I need to learn and then make them work for me. I always have ideas for new things - I just need to put them into practise.
