I'm getting a lot of "spam" comments on my blog with all kinds of random people promoting websites like yahoo, google, facebook using standard "spam-like posts"

those massive websites are also paying people for backlinks???
(if no, why else would these blog commenters promote them?)

You use a fake website, or any random url you can think of (popular sites like those are usually the first that come to mind) to use as your url in comments when you first post to see if it's autoapprove or not, that way if the site isn't autoapprove, you don't risk any webmasters complaining or getting your site banned by Akismet etc

oh! i didn't know that

and so what if a webmaster (e.g. me) does not like the comment - webmasters can actually complain to someone who actually can do something?

sorry and who is Akismet and why it matters if they ban a website?

Thansk for sharing!

Edit: P.S. I ask because I also do blog commenting manually and want to learn. Thanks

You could complain to the person who made the comment, if you are able to find out who it was. But it's a waste of time, because it's not illegal to spam blogs.

Akismet is a wordpress plugin, that tries to stop blog spam. If a webmaster uses Akismet and reports a comment as spam to Akismet, they add the IP and the URL of the spammer to their ban list, which is shared by all users who use Akismet. Thus the spamer won't be able to comment on blogs that use Akismet anymore.
