How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
I wanted to know what is the average the BHW members spend on their sites. From start to finish (till it is ranking)
So if you could reply and tell me how much you guys spend then it will help me out by not spending too much as I am planning to launch a MNS site in a couple of weeks.
Your numbers don't have to be exact.
One more thing, you have no tools at all, you can buy services. (my situation)
I wanted to know how much members spend in these areas for a micro niche site:
Hosting and domain
SEO - imagine you don't have any tools and just
Articles
Other - such as outsourced work

Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
Few bucks for hosting.
$16 for 4 articles.
Then will usually test out some BST services on it.
Depends how long it takes to get it to #1.

Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
Well if you choose a CMS platform like a build most of my websites with then I can give you a general figure although you can make it cost almost as low or as high as your budget is set:
A Wordpress website can cost about $250- $1,500 to create with customization and setup.
A Drupal website can cost anywhere from $500- $50,000. Just depends on how large your project becomes.
A Joomla website can cost anywhere from $1,000- $10,000
The cost of a web project depends on how large of a project you have so there is no one set cost number..
Enjoy the stats I found though

Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
Domain - £6
Hosting - £0 or £2 a month if you don't already have it
wordpress - £0
free template - £0
few hours changing up the template - £0
Write your own content - do your own SEO with a few fiverr jobs if you want.
Should be sweet.

Well if you knew what a micro niche site was, you'd know the don't plan on spending thousands of dollars on each site.

Is there a service you use for articles, because that sounds fantastic.
-
-
Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
$20 on domain and hosting.
Write the main content myself.
Use tools I already have to get backlinks or do manually.
Sometimes buy articles at about $5 a pop.
So... usually no more than $50...
I got 23 hours and 59 minutes to flow, gotta leave some time to fuck

Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
-Hosting per year 96 usd on hostgator
-domain names ~ 8 usd
-On same hosting can install more than 10 sites, all alone, mostly wordpress, so price 0.
Advanced in changing them and implementing various elements on the way how I like, so price 0 again. Graphic work also not a problem, no need to pay.
-Articles from internet, making my rewriting from few different articles, so cost 0
-SEO me again, scrapebox helping a lot, and sometimes taking gigs form fiverr but not too much, mostly time is problem.
All in all, very cheap. Mentioning thousands is funny, story for rich business owners who don't know shit about anything. Even if you don't have knowledge or time to do it alone, outsourcing of ALL elements can be max 150-250 usd per month, correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
Hosting and domain
£1 first year for domain - £7/year after that (if i buy the hosting with it, or £7/year with no hosting).
£2.45/month for hosting for last two sites, as i forgot the login details for my Hostgator, if i ever bother to contact them to sort that out then hosting will be £0/month and something like £100/year for all sites.
SEO
Tried many things that don't work and i don't trust others enough to pay for proper services, so i'm getting into doing my own SEO - Web2.0 / blog commenting etc.
Articles
I usually write one or two really well researched articles myself, but have little motivation to do so, so generally get a ~500 word article for around $3.
Though i am considering hiring my own article writer for around $300 a month.
I now plan on having atleast 50 articles per website, that way i can focus on more longtail keywords and create an authority site, which should further help it rank.
Other
Use wordpress + free themes, using free plugins and paid plugins that i found in the Download section, so don't really spend money on anything else.

Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
10 bucks or less for a new domain. that's all! I never outsource site content, it's for lazy asses and "hands off" business men with money to burn.
-

Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
Hosting - $9 a month
Domain - $8 a year w/ prviacy
Wordpress - FREE
Template - FREE (I modify CSS by hand)
Content - FREE (Scrape, rewrite, don't be lazy.... dude's in Nepal will rarely write you a bang up article for $1.50)
Images - $0 - $10 depends if I create my own in photoshop, get public domain images, or purchase stock photos
The most important thing, keyword research = invaluable.
Overall it costs more time than it does money, and you all know what time equals.

I honestly didn't read his entire most and I thought he needed figured for a serious website not a micro niche site so my stats are way off.
Micro sites are easy to launch haha cost like nothing.. just use a free template and wordpress hosting.

Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
Domain: $9
Hosting: $0 (just plop it on my dedicated server)
Links: $0 I'll either build a site that gets a ton of natural links or use SB on a site that only gets a few natural links. I don't build sites that no one wants to link to.
Articles: $0 I do it myself, and prefer interactive content to articles anyway.
Coding: $0 do it myself
Grand total $9
And my sites look like shit. I'm not an artist. After they make $500 I reinvest that to have the template professionally redone. If it can't make $500 with a shitty look, there's no point in having it.

How the hell does he justify charging $570 per hour (Sean @ SEO_Hacker, just checked out his site).
Is he Matt Cutts boyfriend? Does he have some sort of insider information? Haha

Perhaps you can share with us the place you can get $1 per article.
I guess this is written, but that's better if it's human.

And lol @ $1 articles. Come on guys, use your brain. Do you really think you can get quality articles at $1. Not a chance. You get what you pay for.

Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
Thanks for everyone who has posted on the thread.
What I have learned is:
Most people create their own content
Most people spend little on seo - since the are not ranking for a difficult keyword
Time is important to people
On average, I think people spend around $40 - $80 per site.

Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
15$/vps hosting. Plus whatever for domains etc
Some say I could have gotten away with shared but I buy VPS because I rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it. Then again whats an extra 10$/mo in exchange for speed and uptime!

I'm not sure as to his justification or if he provides value for that price, but he does have a very strong (somewhat cult like) following at the bottom end of the scale on the social networks. He generates new content (although not new concepts) constantly and has a good engagement rate with his audience.
The guy lives in the Philippines, so you only need to work 10 hours a week to have a pretty comfy life.

$4-5 won't get you quality articles either.
At best they will sound like a 9 year old wrote it, from my experience.

Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
Well, it depends on what type of site you are starting..Like a Adsense Site may take up to 100$ maximum to start...and A Ecommerce can take up to like 10000$...So clear what type of site you want to start.

Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
depends on the type of website
if it's a product - design is the big mystery, it can go up to thousands of $$
creating a WP template is around $150-$200 and a simple mockup is as low as $50

-
Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
I got autoblog ranked on #1 without me costing any money. You can do most of the setup yourself, especially keyword research. It is very important.
-
-
Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
This is what you get when you ask a complicated question like "how long is a piece of string?"
-
-
Re: How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?
Almost always less than $50. Getting a site ranked is easy. Making the site actually useful is not and that is where the bulk of expenditure goes.
