Hi,

There's a website that has an "articles" section and all they have done is copied hundreds of articles from across the internet and put their own name as the author.

I used copyscape to check it and all their articles are copied upto 99%. I contacted the actual authors of 3 articles that their content is being plagiarized but did not get any response.

What's getting to me is that I spend hours every day writing quality content but still my site is ranked 11, but these idiots just copied hundreds of articles and they are at rank 4 and have been there for months now.

I do blackhat stuff too, but this is plain illegal.

Does Google not care about this? Are all the rules about duplicate content a myth?

Personally, I believe that Google doesn't care about duplicate content unless it's on your own site. Meaning that if you have 2 pages on the same site with the same content then Google will throw a hissy fit and whinge at you for it but if someone copies your content and posts it then it's just ignored.

Just my opinion of course, others will disagree...

You wasting your time with stupid distractions like complaining about content on the no.4 site!! LOL What you need to do is work on your own site and master SEO so you are no.1 and then you dont need to worry what the no.4 site is doing.

Not to mention the reason that site is no.4 and not no.1 may or may not be the duplicate content. Always concentrate on your own site and learn and do what it takes to get to no.1

Making it online and having a successful business requires a combination of things, one of which is having the right attitude and mindset.

EG, i have the no.1 site in one of my niches and i see sites on page 2 or 3 who have copied my content or even design but i could care less as long as i am no.1

When people talk about dup content they miss one thing. Even with all their data centers algorithims and people working for them. Google is not Skynet.

The methods they use to detect duplicate content are pretty easy.

If you have duplicate content ON YOUR OWN SITE you get a -rip. Meaning you cant have 2 pages with identical content.

If they crawl you and find identical content on someone you link to you get a -rep.

I know 5 people will jump in and disagree with me but this is what I have read and experienced on my own.

If you think Panda is a myth and any old content will do then you clearly don't have any sites of your own and just like to come on forums giving 'advice' about 'life in IM'.

If you extrapolate that google doesn't care about unique content and you can just go and spam everything to make money then you're not very bright.

Scraped content doesn't get de-indexed. It gets penalized.

You're extremely hostile for someone who's doing so well. I've never met someone who's making big money who's that defensive about their views.

also, why is it even there in the SERPS when it has no unique content?

Duplicate content only gives you a *penalty*.

Think of it like this.

You have 2 men about to run a race. 1 of them is an olympic runner, the other is a fat online marketer who's turned up in his pajamas after having a mcdonalds for breakfast.


Google is here and it notices that the olympic runner is a duplicate of another olympic runner! It penalizes the runner by injecting it with swine flu.

The fat marketer and the swine-flu olympic runner line up to race.. *bang* goes the starter gun.

........

Magically the olympic runner still wins, even with swine flu!

The fat marketer saw a mcdonalds wrapper by the side of the track with a few crumbs in it and he stumbled over there to stuff his fat face. (lol)


So you see what I'm saying here? Just because a site's penalized doesn't mean it can't still beat you. Had that same site wrote 600 unique, LSI articles it would be doing even better, but it's obviously got strong enough backlinks to beat you even with the dup content.


Really, the question you need to ask yourself is. How can I SEO my site. The fact the site at #4 has dup content is entirely irrelevant. He's beating you, that's all that matters.


Solution:

1) Go and find another, easier niche.

2) Learn more about SEO and re-tackle the situation later.

3) Both of the above.

This won't help. You're assuming here the competitor is ranking because he's scraped a bunch of articles rather than him ranking DESPITE the fact he's scraped articles.

Spamming isn't illegal. Email spam in certain jurisdictions is illegal, but any other type of spam is perfectly legal.

At a push you could be pursued for denial of service if the spam is severe enough, but that really is at a push.
