what are some of the most effective ways to drive targeted traffic without breaking your neck with SEO?

Buy traffic, if 70% of their traffic is coming from social media i doubt its stuff like people going through their facebook page, more likely stuff like facebook ads etc

I have SEO MOZ, Mashable and a whole host of IM marketers and services posting to my facebook wall and I spend a reasonable amount of time viewing
their links.
If you're not about making money get off my wall.

thats not social media, thats cpc, i think they might be right when they say what they say

YouTube can drive some targeted traffic to your site. You may create videos yourself, or comment to related videos and upvote those comments with a bot.

People talk about youtube being such a hot sport for traffic. How come all the gurus seem to have only a couple of hundred views on their videos?
