Hi

We are going international with our products but the main keyword is not in our url, not even one letter. (because the norwegian keyword is different from the english once).

Should we change to another url with the english keyword in the url or should we continue using our old domain? (its only 6 months old, but we have done some sea and have a PR2 in google).

Could redirect the old domain to the new one. I believe that passes on the PR...

Yes Carpozi is right.

Just get a new domain that includes the keyword, and redirect the old one to it. With this way I got a transfer to a PR 6 domain :) So it works.

But it's also important to inform Google of the change, if you have Google Webmaster Tool, go there and tell Google that you changed your website URL. (If you don't have then get it)

Good luck man

I tried redirecting with 301, but the next time google crawled my site I got an "unreliable" PR rank instead of the the PR2 that I had before on linkdomain, people say that this is because people do this to get high PR before selling the domain and that google dont like this, so they advised me to remove the redirect.

Also, wouldnt the other domain loose its place in google search? its currently on second place, will it move down when its just a redirect?

thanks for all the help :)

Does anybody know about this? Can I continue doing SEO on my old domain if I redirect it to the new domain??? And what about this google PR when using 301 redirect? Anyone knows?

Yes, you can keep doing seo to the old domain. The pr should transfer to the new domain with a 301 re-direct, although I'm not sure if the pr is 100% transfered. Lots of companies do seo on a domain and 301 it to the website as a backup in case they aren't paid.

But what about Content on page? If its just an redirect page, wouldnt it mean none content. Do you think I can range higher in google search even after redirecting the page? Also, I have 10 other domains, should i do Seo on them as well and redirect them to the main page or can I get punished for that?

Anyone knows?

You could go to GoDaddy Auctions and buy an aged domain with PR and use that, and at the same time do what others have already suggested, redirecting the old domain to the new domain, that way you get double power.

Your very first objective should be what's best for your clients.

After that focus on SEO, in which case using the old domain is best. But again, if for clients it's best to have the new domain then you need to do a 301 redirect from your old domain to the new domain.

If, changing your domain doesn't really matter then I highly recommend keeping the old domain. Especially if it's aged and has pagerank already.

Well, I have PR2 and are number 3 on most of the norwegian keywords. But the english keywords dont have any letters in the URL, its not even close. And my other domain I registered at the same time, but it have a PR1 and I havent done any SEO on it. The old domain is only 6 months old.

I dont understand this. Isn't content king? How can I get better SEO rank on a redirect website if its just an redirect and don't have any content??

I am facing the same problem, wish we got someone who has done this before/

A PR2 isn't worth anything, you can generate this in <5 minutes.

Maybe forget redirecting it (and just forget PR altogether, focus on position for keyword), if it's your company name and your domain is doing well for Norwegian searches (sounds like it from what you wrote)? Just have site.no/en/ and then do onsite and offsite optimisation for the English keyword. Many CMS can be multi-lingual and ones (such as Drupal) have many modules to help do this.

Alternatively, if you really want a separate site, you could also have a domain in English too and navigate between the two by selecting language. (BTW, for drupal, you can do multi-site/domain installs, share the same database, etc, from one hosting account. No idea about other CMS.)

Either way, you keep your current market and make yourself available to a new one, without hurting your current site and position.

Good luck, mate.

Is this a redirect, I think so, and want to know how to do it. If you go to google, and type in thousandoakspowersports then click the link that comes up in the SERP, and watch the domain change to thousandoaksyamaha.com Hence their targeted keywords in the domain.

Whats the best way to do this?
