Will certain domain names help me rank my website easier?

Yup. EMD (exact match domains). Always check if it's available. For example, if you want to rank for "weight loss remedies", check if domain weightlossremedies.com/.net/.org/.info... are available. If they aren't try to add something after the keyword. Like weightlossremediessite.com or weightlossremediesblog.com. You get the point.

Or, alternatively you can buy aged domain with some backlinks - it will be a good shot too.

Absolutely. As mentioned above EMD's are great but, if your trying to target a specific region be sure to get an appropriate TLD.
