Flash Web Sites - Do they rank?

I used to hear to not make a flash site since the spiders cannot crawl them and to stay with a Wordpress or HTML site. Was this correct or never correct assuming effort was made with SEO and backlinks etc. with the flash site?

It is correct...if you see that your backlinks are enough to keep your page on the top of google, you can keep it like this, but html ranks MUCH better

I can tell you with 100% certainty that flash sites don't rank as well as html sites. What I did with one of my sites, though, was to add the flash app at the top, and then an article with all the content of the app at the bottom, that way it's best of both worlds, plus it works for people without flash enabled as well.

Flash sites don't rank as well as HTML sites but, I have ranked them in the past.

While Google *can* crawl Flash sites, just remember to follow the basic guidelines:

1) Use text instead of images in the flash document.
2) Make sure the SWF file isn't huge! Google doesn't want to download megabytes worth of Flash.

Also don't forget that iPad users can't view your site at all, so unless you MUST have flash, consider switching to text for SEO.

Also flash and rural customers or people on dial up usually doesnt work too well. Me, I click off when I see a flash site!
