As I was typing the thread title something else came to mind, which I'll finish with.
Do you think Google could solve a lot of problems if they got rid of page rank? There are a lot of PR home page services, blog commenting services, etc. How big of a dent would it make in all these black hat services if they removed PR? People sell forum links, blog commenting, home page links, blog posts, web2.0 services, etc, all related to PR.
And what came to mind when I was typing the title was, even if Google removes PR, some companies will develop their own ranking system (which a couple have already, always forget the URL of the big one), and I guess it would become the standard...
Maybe that's a good idea to do right now, start your own ranking system, that's fairly accurate, and if google ever does get rid of it, your system would be the go to system.
