[Ask] Is it good for promoting our product in Alibaba?

I have manufactured some physical product, and now i want to export it from my country. I have decided to use alibaba, and other b2b site, but until nowadays, my product didn't sold
so my questoin is:

1. Is it good to promote our product using alibaba? or other b2b site?
2. How to optimize my product that listed on this b2b site?

If you want to be noticed by people in alibaba, you have to pay the gold membership which is some ridiculous amount like $1500. I signed up as a buyer and they kept trying to offer me to sign up as a seller with gold membership. Crazy.

2. HIRE SOME MARKETER ON ELANCE 4 EX.. TO PROMOTE UR PRODUCTS IN YOUR TARGET COUNTRY,,

Hmmm, but $1500 cost is very expensive for me. Is any method to do it for free or lower cost may be.

My product is a charcoal for bbq. And my target is bbq restaurant, steak restraurant. How to get to this market?
