I would consider myself a noob to most the people on this forum, so please dont flame the living hell out of me if this question seems really stupid.

I have been trying to search for methods of lowering competitors google rankings.

I am not having the best success with this. Maybe I am just not using the correct wording with my searches?

If you can point me in the right direction that would be helpful. If there is a name for this kind of work (Besides A**hole) please share.

Searching "How to lower a competitors google ranking" really doesn't work at all. Search Engine De-Optimization ??? lol.

Thanks

Yes. It's simple, In theory and I don't recommend it.

Gain Root Access to competitor server.

format C:

profit

its called Google Bowling. it typically involves messing around with your competitor's link velocity (i.e. giving them a burst of spammy backlinks)

you should never focus on hurting your competitors rankings
that will only result in giving them better rankings in the long run
you will also be wasting your time
google would be a war zone if everyone could hurt everyone elses rankings, just think about it
instead, just learn methods to find your competitors backlinks so that you can also get those same backlinks as them
and by the way, there have been many tests here in BHW of members blasting their competitors sites with SB and xrumer etc. and the competitors sites only ranked higher in the long run, even if it did get sandboxed for some time

Haha, lol. Yea that would for sure.

Just want some stuff on how duplicate content, excessive links on spam related sites pointing to them will have any effect at all?

I've tested this in one instance and I always came back stronger after the dance.

I think you really have to get creative in doing this kind of blackhat. And it's going to cost you more time and money than it may be worth it.

Ahh thanks! Thats what I was looking for - Google Bowling.

Wow, I would not have guessed that.. I guess if you needed them to drop temporarily this might a viable option.

Yeah

Bend Over Here It Comes Again
Not recommended, I understand your sentiments exactly, my competitors are constantly infuriating me, just the sight of their crappy website ....(blood pressure rising taking deep breath)
But it cost money and time to do both, so why not focus on your domain?

Has anyone ever filed a copyright infringement and had the site removed for "set period of time" until the infringement suite is resolved? lol pretty messed up haha

I'm not advocating screwing around with other people's sites or even saying that its worth the time and effort.

But I'm pretty damn good at messing my own websites up (through nothing but external forces). I know how bad I can mess myself up for. I know how long I can mess myself up for. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work on other's sites.

I haven't seen a case yet though where its worth the effort. Any well-established site wouldn't be vulnerable. Any not-well-established website is easier to beat with plain SEO.

Well, if you can learn how to take sites out of the index, or reduce their rankings, you would probably have a pretty good grasp on SEO.
If you have that good of a grasp, just SEO for yourself.

Having said that, if the site is established and has been ranking well for years...good luck changing anything by whatever methods you employ.
If it's a new site, you can probably hurt it by running a completely "wrong" SEO campaign.
This doesn't simply involve blasting some spammy links, but rather performing ALL the blackhat tasks big G hates so much.
Over the long run though, any site you build links to is going to come out the same or better.

GTFO, you would do much better learning to optimize your own site than trying to make all the other sites go down.

It's called being a douchebag.

One of the biggest things people don't like on this forum. Focus on your site, and overcome them.

Here is my ultimate guide to Google Bowling:
Create 10 near exact match domains for the keywords you're trying to de-rank your competitor for. Put them all on their own c-class ips. Rank each on page 1, in spots 1-10. It's a google strike, AND you make bank off the keyword positioning.

Make sure though that each site looks completely non-related to each other...heck you could even use different platforms, one joomla, one wp, one drupal, one a phpbb, etc...

This is also a more legitimate way than trying to get them sandboxed completely. ... You could also do what that dumbass Shoemoney did for me, and get a negative review for them ranked #1... Bad press goes a long way... towards hurting a reputation...

Also here's a good example -- google the term "seo columbus" and read Mike Halverson's posts about someone who tried to blackball him for using his Business name as his keyword...his business name being SEO COlumbus which is way too generic to be trademarkable, and he was a total jackass, and tons of people ranted in the comments about how bad this guy was, that he is no longer in the SEO business lol.

search engine De-optimization

so many members here don't know the opposite of seo? what a sham! lol j/k

That is just putting it mildly. There are a number of ways of how you can screw up your competitors rankings and after reading the comments and replies I think that all of them take the cake. Two thumbs up guys, now I wonder what I was doing the whole time.
