There's this keyword I'd like to rank for, and I have a possible EMD I can register for that keyword, but it looks like the pages on the 1st page are Wikipedia, about.com subdomains, and news websites.

Does the wiki page have the keyword in the title, description, and h1 tag? Also how many backlinks does it have?

I have out ranked Wikipedia only when the keyword is not In the Wikipedia tittle, if it's in the content you should be ok.
