If I go to social bookmarking sites, RSS sites, forum/web profile sites, social networks, press release sites, directories, etc and set up a profile that has a link and set these each up by hand isnt this white hat seo? But if I have SEnuke do it then its black hat? Any comments?

I guess with automation tools its blackhat, without whitehat.

Any time a tool is used to subvert the efforts of captchas or reduce the manual time, and/or being done on a grand scale its concidered grey / black hat. black hat by definition is the out right violation of sites terms. grey hat is bordering the rules white hat is following them. Hope that helped.

PS if your on BHW generally your doing BH stuff... LOL So any time you have a question if something may be black hat on here then 9 / 10 its going to be BH

What if you outsource the tasks to some eager Indians or Philippinos, is that a type of "automation"? You get these Indians etc to perform the same tasks as automation tools do in a manual way...

In my opinion, there really is no whitehat way of doing anything, except for time itself. Even manual link building is still considered blackhat because... it's the same thing you would be doing just without a tool.

Hypothetically speaking... if you rob a gas station with a gun, chances are you'll have a higher success rate and be more efficient. if you rob it withought a gun... your still technically robbing it, just without the extra tool (gun in this case).

I really don't know why I used that stupid analogy, just the first thing that came to my mind.
