Link Building SEO?

I have a concern about link building.

I'm generally new to SEO and such. But let's say I'm trying to rank for a term that has 10,000 exact searches per month, and has about 15,000,000 results.

The top 3 spots on Google each have under 2,000 backlinks, so meaning, If I do some backlinking of over 10,000 for this keyword, will there be a good chance I can be ranked in the top 3?

SEO doesnt come down to the principle of "my dick is bigger than yours" You can make 200000 links with pr0 prN/A and he can have 100 links with pr4-5 and he will always be on top. What you have to consider is this : Quality of links, variaton of links(blog comments, profile links etc.), domain age and others... my advice to you read the forum till you drop. Cheers

Will a newly purchased domain affect the SEO? Isn't that a myth?

No it isn't actually. New domains do affect your rankings...

If you build links to a brand new domain too aggressively, you will have some bad shit by Google...
Conversely, if your domain has been there for a couple of years, you can build as many links as you want to the domain.

No, its not a myth... just think of it logicly: Lets say 2 guys are trying to sell you the same product.... one of them shows you his portfolio and demonstrates that hes been in the business for 2 years and has lots of people recomending him and the other has nada ! he is new to the game and can hardly show you anything of value to demonstrate his skill. Of course you are gona give more credit to the guy who has experience and buy from him.This was just an example dont take it literally.Google gives more credit to aged domain and its not a myth. Im not saying age cant be beat..... but its gonna take a while and a great SEO campaign to do so.

Does the age of the domain matter if it has been expired and sold again? I just bought a domain from the go daddy auctions and it is at least a year old. I'm thinking of being more aggressive with this one than usual but I just want to make sure that the age of it doesn't get wiped out because it has been expired.

Any thoughts on that?

Oh and also about the thread topic. Yeah you can't just beat him with the numbers of the backlinks. You need to have the right anchor text, variation of sources, quality of the links. Also you just need time for everything to get indexed and google to like you. This morning one of my sub pages shot from being ranked 50 to 10 in two different keywords. I hadn't done anything extra, it just took the search engines that long to decide.

Also, while researching my keywords with Traffic Travis, I've found that a lot of the #1 spots are held by sites without a lot of backlinks while spots 5-10 have 10,000 - 100,000 more.
