You picked the wrong battle. Too much competition. Period.
Here is my take on keyword research.
1. Get into right mindset.
Remember,
THERE ARE UNLIMITED NUMBER OF HIGH TRAFFIC
LOW COMPETITION KEYWORDS THAT CONVERT
If you have problems with that, read "Thing and grow rich" and
"Science of getting rich". Especially pay attention to "abundance
mentality" versus "scarcity mentality". Join some new age group,
start meditation program, get in touch with you feelings, etc so
you know Universe loves you and stuff like that
The key is to drill into your head that your keywords are out there
waiting for you. You can find these keywords in ANY marker
REGARDLESS of how competitive it is.
Nowadays I'd spend ten times more doing keyword research than
anything else.
2. One keyword per website
Fuck the authority sites. Fuck tons of long tail keywords. If you are
to succeed in fast and efficient manner you need to FOCUS. It is
unbelievably effective to blast one single keywords. Take three or
four of them and you time to page one will quadruple. I've learned
it the hard way. You don't have to.
3. Domain = Keyword + {.com|.org|.net}
If you can't get a keyword rich domain, find another keyword.
Remember, there are UNLIMITED number of them. Many "experts"
say get suffix domain name like keyword+{site|online|blog|etc}.
I say, fuck them. Let others work hard for their money. Less
competition for you.
4. Pick GOOD keyword
What is good keyword?
a. It passes a gut test.
Use your own judgement. "Download Wii FIT free"? Probably not.
"Buy provillus"? Probably yes. Read other comments about targeting
buyer keywords and product related keywords. I don't like "howto"
keywords as well but you can still convert them with a good story.
b. 1500+ EXACT searches per month
Yes, exact. Forget about broad here. If it is huge on broad but
low on exact this means you will fail to get traffic. I learned it
the hard way so you don't have to.
Ideally you want to have 2500+ EXACT searches per month.
AVOID big traffic keywords. Like 1000 searches per day. Even with
low SEOC. You can still go for it but you'll most likely find that
competition on page one is crazy.
c. Healthy amount of competition
He is what it means. SEOC MUST be less than 50,000. Ideally
less than 25,000. Perfect SEOC is 10,000 or less. Remember,
there are UNLIMITED number of keywords like this.
I go for SEOC up to 100,000 but it means LONGER BATTLE.
Remember, there are UNLIMITED number of keywords that
mean high traffic little competition criteria.
Also check the amount of inurl:"keyword" intitile:"keyword"
pages. This is your real competition. Anything less than 1000
means piece of cake. My upper limit for it is 30,000 (for
100,000 SEOC).
5. Check page one for your keyword
I use Market Samurai to assess the competition. I avoid
competition like huge authority sites (Wikipedia,
about.com, etc) or other affiliates who have thousands
of backlinks for page and PR2+.
I also pay attention to on page optimisation. You'll be
surprised how many affiliate screw this part up.
The answer to your question: you have too much competition.
Regardless of how good you're at blasting backlinks, pick the
battle you can win. Let others work hard for their commissions.
Cheers.
PS. Next battle for you will be conversions

One single
recommendation here - NLP (especially Milton model and
