Latest link scheme for niche sites

What's the latest news on link structure for niche sites? I'm guessing link pyramids, link pushes and link circles are things from the past. I did some searches but was unable to find any new posts on this from 2011.

Link pushes are still working, you just have to be careful not to leave a footprint by pushing in a pattern. Chaotic link pushing is the way forward. Creating some primary link nodes, pointing to your site, and blasting them with scrapebox seems to work pretty well.

The thing is, most methods will never die, because they usually emulate natural link building anyway.
