General traffic question... Normal to see a slight dip in SERP's before they improve?

I think I already know the answer to this, but just to confirm... Let's say you're building lots of links to all of the pages on your site... As a general rule, isn't it pretty normal to see a slight decline in traffic / SERP's before every big improvement that you see?

I guess what I'm saying is... as you go about building links... Isn't it pretty normal to see your traffic continually increase in the form of large spikes and smaller valleys. It's not really linear, right?

Yeah thats pretty normal with all the sites i work on daily.

Usually after 24hrs to 48hrs a drop in serps and normally within 4/5 days and back on the old one.
After that some little g dance and climbing up the ladder

Has happened to me with every new site I get up. Plus I have seen a lot of changes in google over the past few weeks

happened to me too, can be noticed if using good seo plugin like "seo booster pro", sometimes #4.. then after few days it goes to #9, then it goes back or even closer to #1
