I think 5000 BL with PR0 is better if it's related to your nich.
Quality backlinks isn't only high Pagerank. But if you want to boost the pagerank 50 PR6 is for sure better.

What kind of links are we talking about? Is this a page of content where your link is in the content and a PR6 page?

If you're going for PR the PR6 pages would probably be better. If you're going for higher rankings I would probably opt for the 5000 backlinks but only if they're content links. Anyone can get 5000 pr0 links with a quick xrumer or scrapebox blast.

The type of links are forum profile signatures and blog post links.

I would go with 50 PR 6 back links, if there aren't many OBL ( Outbound links ) at these sites.

But you should go with both.
