Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
I have some pretty good Ipad related domains and was trying to think of a way of monetizing them.
The Ipad was launched by Apple a few days ago and is rumored to be become bigger than the ipod.
Should I be doing something with these domains now to look like some authority site?
Any advice appreciated.

I have a tech web, and I dont think it's that big of a deal. I mean from what I've seen it's just a trend!

I thought the Ipad was the next bing thing from apple. I might be wrong but should I be doing something with these domains anyway?
They say demand is going to outstrip supply from April 2010 to January 2011. So I don't think I will be able to set up an affiliate deal with a supplier.
Still after ideas..

Wouldnt it be a trademark violation to have 'IPAD' in a domain name?

Just picked myself up off the floor.
Ok so Apples hype might not come true but they will sell millions and I think there is an opportunity here.

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
iPad is a big thing but no chance it will be so popular as iPhone is.
Phone has almost everyone. You can get it for 'free' with your contract etc. That is another toy for geeks (like me;D)

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
I never said as big as iPhone but I did say as big as Ipod!
Anyway been made an offer for the domains so might just take it for a quick $$

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
Think awhile first before selling it.. You might regret it in the future..

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
I am putting up a site today with adsense, my amazon store related to apple products and a email/ name capture for people waiting to hear more about release. I will stick a couple of CJ banner ads on there too.
I am also writing a few articles ready to SENuke and maybe some video.
Anyone got any more ideas?
I will let you know the domain I am using for this test soon.

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
what domains do you have?
I might be interested in buying them.
Also, my company sells insurance for the ipad. I can pay you 25% commission on all sales. Which is anywhere from about 10 to 20 dollars each.

-
Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
Definitely keep them and monetize them. You have a lot of good affiliate possibilities. Personally, if they are good names I wouldn't suggest selling them for at least another yet.
Use code, 'BHWSwipe' for 40% off!

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
i dont think the ipad will be a hit at all. All the trendy must have Mac'ies will have to buy it of course, but i think it wiill just go the same as the mac cube

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
What are your domain names like.
if it is good.
contact sites that sell Ipads.
They will pay you at least $1k to get the domains.
Target big players.
For example, i am willing to buy domains that are related to my niche.
But rarely get people who is willing to sell.
After all, google pays ALOT of attention to DOMAIN NAME.

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
The iPad is big, but the HP Slate is going to be even bigger. Before people buy either one, they're first going to want to compare the two devices. They're going to head to Google and search for "ipad vs hp slate", and I just happen to have the perfect domain + site!
Edit: Put it up for sale and got a $650 offer by the way. So yes, get on the train quickly and you might make some cash.

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
Ok I have put a site up on apple-ipads. net. (one of the Ipad domains I registered). This is my first attempt to monetize a website. I know the adsense on the main page is just an image but just wanted a bit of feedback first.
I am waiting to be accepted for the Itunes/Apple affiliate program and will adding banner ad and link to apps.
I would also like any advice on further monetizing the site.

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
The problem you're likely to have further down the line, if your project does become successful, is Apple's lawyer's getting in touch with a cease and desist and eventually lifting the domain from your hands completely.
You can't just register any domain you want... Well, you can, but if the domain violates trademark laws, the trademark holder has the right to claim the domain.

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
Ok - so there could be an issue in the future with trademark. But in the meantime I want to make some money - so if anyone can suggest a way of monetizing the site more than would be very helpful.
The site is not finished yet but 99% done. Got video to add.
I created the News page using Yahoo Pipes - How easy, its a fantastic tool.
I also have some very good ipad .com and .co.uk domains if anyone is interested in buying please pm me.

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
Im also curious to see the legal side of this.. I acquired a bunch of prime domains related to the upcoming Nintendo DSi XL console and am unsure of what to do with the domains.

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
Well there are loads of Iphone related domains around that are not owned by apple and they seem to be doing ok.

I'm just saying if the project does ever get large enough to show up on their "radar" then they can shut you down and steal your traffic in a flash.
A rather black-hat idea off the top of my head to help you out and give you some fruit for thought:
Find lots of e-mail or zip submits relating to other apple products and iframe the e-mail address/zip-code field using CPAGod. Create your own "free ipad" e-mail submit offer and send organice traffic to the page. It'd be wise to split the leads among as many CPA companies as possible just in case, but the CPA companies shouldn't really notice a difference considering the leads will still be fairly targeted.
Just an idea to get the ball rolling.
Apart from that, you could always build a targeted list and market tech-related products to it.

Well, we're an insurance company. We insure iphones, laptops, tablets, kindles, etc.
We treat it just like any tablet, which we have a policy for so we offer insurance for it.

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
I got ipadhype.net....lets see what i can turn it into.
-
-
Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
it always surprises me how many IMers go out spend money on these "hype" domains/sites and make that short term money then it dries up and then its off to the next trend... what a waste of money and time
-
-
Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
How is it a waste of money and time if you invest less than $20 and make over $100 in the end?
-
-
Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
Good Question... Because it's not a long term investment so you're having to stay on top of the new trends everyday and when the trend dies in most cases so does the site and when u flip it u leave the new owner with a piece of crap site but that's just IMO. Others will of course see it differently.

Please give feedback on apple-ipads . n e t
I am waiting for my adsense account and iTunes affiliate link.
I was thinking of adding an amazon store also with just apple products listed. What do you think?

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
i'm sure those "buy 1 product from an advertiser and get an ipad for free" offers will pop up...however how do those work? how do those affiliates make money on those promos?
-
-
Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
Affiliates are way to go. Monetization in other ways is likely going to be too time consuming. Since the Ipad is likely going to be just another fad, you'll need to focus on getting your pagerank up first.

-
Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
what would be the best affiliate programs to promote the ipad (or apple products in general)?

Re: Apple Ipad Domains - Monetizing
i really don't see the ipad taking off like ipods have. but who knows - i never thought netbooks would get as big as they are either...
