How i won a black hat SEO contest
Hi,
i'm not used to speaking here because i used to thinking that i had lots of thing to learn and not much to say. BHW was my first SEO forum and still is a premium source of information. I learnt lots of things here.
since i am french, several months ago, i tried french SEO forums which are pretty cool : www.seosphere.com www.discodog.fr/black-hattitude.
Discodog launched a black hat SEO contest from september 1st to november 2nd, no rulez, the winner would be the one whose website would have 1st rank on google.fr for the "black hattitude" query (with quotes).
That was my first contest, and i won. Mainly because of all the things i learnt here and on the two french SEO forums mentionned above.
Well, i wanted to thank you for all this forum and members taught me, and sharing my experience regarding this contest.
Among the contestants, there was a bunch of elite, e.g former members of sphereteam who won busby seo world contest 2008 ( http://www.sphereteam.com/ ).
the tools i used were : XRumer, Link Farm Evolution, PRstorm, Autopligg, and some homemade perl scripting.
I began the contest with a mininet of 7 websites dispatched on 7 diferrent class C ip adresses, built on a classic butterfly structure, and spammed forums and blogs with XRumer at 120 submissions/minute. Since i hadn't listened to XRumer team advices, the majority of these spams were quickly deleted (7 bl per message looks to spammy for websites owners)
Then, i used kinda "social engineering", posting messages containing only one backlink to one of the 7 websites above. those messages were content spinned. they were all saying things like "Hi, your blog/forum is awesome, blablabla "- bl only in signature.
The retension rate was much better then. each week i made sessions of REFERER spamming, backlinking the 7 websites, there were juice. i was keeping a rank among the top 10 contestants, almost never 1st to avoid negative SEO attempts or hacks.
2 weeks before the end, i did set up another wheel of 100 wpmu blogs, all of them backlinking the 7 websites, gave them juice with REFERER spamming to death and lots of Pligg comments with Autopligg. I held rank 3 with 8500 backlink to my main site, the link building was ready.
then, on october 28th i posted 7 pligg stories, each story pointing to one of the 7 first websites, spammed 2000+ high PR pligg hosts with Autopligg and got the first place within 24 hours, thas was a kind of ultimate strike at a time where contestants were the most agressive : the last week's final sprint. During the 5 last days, when i gained 1st place, no one was able to figure out how i did this, i had been hidden behind the 2 or 3 constants who were fighting for 1st place all the time.
when i think back to this story, i remember a lot of bad comments on some tools here e.g. XRumer which wouldn't be so powerful and Autopligg which would be shitty.
I saw that, badly used, some tools don't give any result. In this case, I assumed the mistake was situated between the chair and the keyboard.
I wanted to share this with you to let you know how i properly used those tools, and to confirm that link farm evolution, xrumer and Autopligg are killer ones.
Finaly, my main website has grown PR 4 within two months, 1st place on google.fr "black hattitude" query, 1st place on google's caffeine, 1st on bing and 30 big search engines.
4 of the 7 websites are in bing #1 page for this request, a decent alexa ranking, main site appears in "google suggestion" for this query. nice ^^
Thank you if you took the time to read this whole post and sorry for my bad english.
See ya,
Mnem0

Re: How i won a black hat SEO contest
Nice info OP... any tips for building higher quality pligg lists, I haven't had much luck with autopligg mostly because I haven't found any good scaping software and all the sites I seem to find are utter shit and the backlinks don't count for anything. Goolger is the only OK scaper I have, but even that seems shit for Pligg sites...I would love to know how people get good pligg sites.
Cheers.

Re: How i won a black hat SEO contest
As i explained, if you don't have a serious link building before pligg spamming, you won't get any result, wathever the quality of your pligg hosts list. The point is "take the time for a strong link building before social bookmarking spamming" which is the cream of the crop imho, or pligg spamming will get you to nowhere. I obtained a good pligg host list from several friends who asked me not to disclose, consequently, i won't.
I do think that believing that a good pligg hosts list would be the magic key that unlocks great SEO powers is false. Taking time to massive link building each day prior to high PR sites spamming seems the best advice i can give. I learnt it on bhw, lots of people do give this advice, a common but precious one.

Haha congrats man :-) Great to share your method here, indeed, I was pretty sure that it was mainly linkwheels + xrumer. Besides, I think you could have won only using LFE + Xrumer, dont you think so ?

Hi dude ^^,
LFE + XRumer provided me a strong link building. Since LFE is really slow on my win server, i couldn't have won only with these two tools because of my difficulty to bulk activate xmlrpc. with such bugs, i couldn't have won. Moreover, last days were hot : maximedt and Tiger are high level contestants, they know dirty tricks ^^. I really do think Autopligg killed them for good, i'm not certain that a working LFE+Xrumer setup could have done this.
Et vive la France et la black hattitude.
J'ai fourni à Rudy tous les détails/schémas de cette méthode ^^

Re: How i won a black hat SEO contest
One question, as i am still learning SEO.
How long these kind of websites retain their position, once you get to first page?

Re: How i won a black hat SEO contest
depending on how much you took care in obfuscating your techniques i guess. Plus, once you're in rank 1, you get more chances to get real backlinks and bookmarks from people, and less risks to get penalized.

Re: How i won a black hat SEO contest
Congratulations my friend! I still believe the URL is a major factor in obtaining strong rank - it seems the winner in most all cases has the "keyword.com" or at least "key-word.com", and your domain has the keyword twice though a subdomain lol lol
According to Yahoo! 7085 external inbound links tool, nice - how long was this in? 3 months according to the blog? Is this correct?

yea, but I mean with a already "used and totally abused term" like Facebook or MySpace - see how we all fair on that lol - anyway, I'll stop hijacking the thread.

In my experience, i made a mininet/linkwheel structure since the begining, boosted it with regular spamming blog/forums. in the middle of the contest, one of my friends decided to help me by pligg spamming in order to backlink the websites of the mininet, there has been no changes in my ranking. two months and 6000+ backlinks after the begining, pligg spamming gave awesome results.

Re: How i won a black hat SEO contest
Came up with a question :-
My new domain got indexed in googleand then de-indexed the next day. Its been 2 days now and its still de-indexed.
what I had done was submitted sitemap to Google,Yahoo and Bing and done RSS submissions using RSS-Submit software.
There are 3 posts on the blog, all unique and hand written. Its a dot com domain and I am using wordpress.
Now I have re-submitted the sitemap to google with no results so far.
I was about to open a thread for this, but lets first see what you guys feel about this ?
Still new to SEO though!

Re: How i won a black hat SEO contest
Great job!
Some useful information for reading.
How you build a linkwheel with 100 blogs? Do you linked pages randomly, or wheel like or didn't link them at all. This is one of the best tutorials on BHW.
Thanks!

like a wheel, via a link farm evolution's hook. In addition to this, each of the 100 wpmu blogs had linked the 7 prime websites. As a result, main site got PR 4 ( http://blackhattitude.blackhattitude.org), five of the six prime sites around got PR 3 ( http://blackhattitude.lausanne-voyance.ch, http://blackhattitude.tapalair.net, http://blackhattitude.luc-quoniam.fr, http://blackhattitude.rondeetvoyante.ch...) and the 7th got PR 2 (probably a mistake in my spamming campaigns).

Re: How i won a black hat SEO contest
@ mnem0
Ok thanks for help. With this strategy you can make a decent money by outranking very competitive niches in short period of time. Am I already calculating if this strategy is done in competitive niche for 2 3 or 6 months.
And xRumer is definitely my next thing to buy when I will get done my link farm developing and linking.

Holy shit, that's a lot of software.
Is this all really necessary to be successful?
I sure hope not. 0.0

Dude,
Congrats on your success. I especially like your observation that 'the mistake was situated between the chair and the keyboard.'
Great read. Nice info!

I didn't say that, in fact, that only was the goal to win this contest. Getting one PR 4 and four PR 3 from scratch in two months is a real great plus.
