Are article directories closing/getting banned?
Hi guys, I found on my pc an AMR database that is at least 6 months old. I have 21 articles submitted with that database. I taked a random article. Here are the numbers:
- submited to 1602 article directories
- livelinks from database 551
- livelinks checked 1 minute ago 39
Right now i'm submitting an article to those 1602. I will post my results back here in 4-5 mins.
P.S.: Question for everyone: Are you having the same problems?

Re: Are article directories closing/getting banned?
From those 1602 i was able to submit only to 489. From those 489 only 30 are live links.

Re: Are article directories closing/getting banned?
See my November thread here:
http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackha...-indexing.html
The last panda updates have wiped out a lot of indexed articles, as the entire site has been devalued. The panda updates specifically targeted this type of content.
Since then, indexing has come back stronger if you do things right.
In the above post it was taking 3 months to get 100-150 indexed from a submission, and now it's much faster again, as long as you've got a strong database.
A lot of old article links via AMR will be dead now thanks to the Panda update.

?????
@jascoken
it's not about indexing, it's about live links
551 livelinks is almost impossible, especially with a 6 month old database

Live links have dropped back because of dir's mass deleting posts because of spamming, and because massive quantities of directories have failed.
As you say, you certainly won't get 550 live links from a 6 m old database, but it's quite doable with an upto date DB. I get 600-700 usually, and a lot more over time as I'm very careful with content quality and avoiding any footprint.

Re: Are article directories closing/getting banned?
I got those 551 live links from previous checks aka from that article submitted 2-3-4-5 months ago. And now, when i checked again i got only 39 live links. What you don't understand?

I understand exactly!
And I explained WHY this has happened. You asked if anyone else was experiencing this and I explained that everyone is, and why: massive directory and post deletions.
Article directories were hit so hard by spam last year, and none of them got the return they were expecting from AdSense etc, as Panda killed their rankings. Therefore, they folded up, because hosting an article directory is resource intensive and normally costs a bit as you grow, or it's being knocked out all the time because of bad shared hosting and SQL overloading.
What exactly do you want to know?

Sorry, that message was ment for @spoon22.
@jascoken:
1. How many directories you have in your database? Total, ok, confirmed.
2. How many directories can you submit every time ?
3. How many live links do you get every submit ?
P.S.: 6 months ago when i made that database I used lists with articles from different forums and from scraping directly from Google. Now, i compiled againg those list and removed duplicate lines. I got 103 000 domains, mostly article directories. I'm gonna check that list with Xenu to see how many are still "alive". Your statement when you said you get 5-600 livelinks made me to do this.
Thanks for your answers.

No problems!
1. Complicated answer: 100's of thousands in my non-live offline DB which i check all new scrapes against, so I don't import ones I've tried before.
Around 2.5k in my live DB and I trim it every 2 weeks. My DB is always tight. I will always only have around 20% that don't work at a maximum, because I blacklist regularly and then export and start a new DB.
I normally get around 1500-2000 success submits and 600-700 AA's. I usually get around 1000 live after a month - 6 weeks.
Remember; it's not just the DB, it's also content quality and submission footprint that will affect overall live links and their ability to index.

Re: Are article directories closing/getting banned?
Another question:
How many words do you use in "summary" and "body" ?

Re: Are article directories closing/getting banned?
Summary should be fairly short; just 2-3 sentences. Body should be 450-900 words, depending on your topic. I usually shoot for 550-650 to keep everyone happy. NO hard and fast rule though.
PS: I've taken the time to answer 4 times above and you haven't even hit the thankyou button... That's what it's there for! Simple BHW etiquette...

Re: Are article directories closing/getting banned?
My personal opinion is that it is time to switch to other type of backlinks.
I lost lot of SERP positions that were based on old article directories with good PR that are not more even indexed or do not exist at all... New directories will just follow the old one, plus their PR is not as good as had the original directories in older AMR databases, so the effect is not as good anymore.
It's simply time to find a new source of backlinks that will replace these directories!

It's your choice of course, but you've just removed thousands of potential IP's and platforms for reasonable quality content-embedded links back to your site. Only 2.0's can really replace them, and they take much longer to create comparitively.
Try creating a bunch of 2.0's and then use an article blast to juice them up. Maybe 100 2.0's with 1000-2000 articles in the 2nd tier. And that will give you a platform to also blast some lower quality links to the articles and 2.0's too. Giving the start of a nice small pyramid.
