    Business Writing Tips

I do not believe you can learn this on the Internet or by video…

I read a lot of business correspondence and it is often clear that the writer has no hands on business expertise and experience…

On the job is the way to learn many of the complex ins and outs of business as almost every business process or method is unique to the said business…

Many business niches are similar, but it is stretch to assume that say an engineer at a Coca Cola plant will have a clue about business say in an Oil Refinery.

It is not like that is it!

    Wow.

After reading this about 4 times, I question where this rant came from... then I realize it would make more sense if it was thought out. Perhaps this was best saved for your blog and not advertised as some senseless satirical statement with a bias to the intellects of everyone reading it.

This made me pull my hair out.

Conversely, Steelballs, business people don't have experience in articulating their thoughts into the written word. That's why they're not writers. Writers, the good one's at least, have experience in writing about the basics of businesses to where someone on the internet will want to know more. Being that what it is, the writer doesn't need to know everything about a business, just enough to make the reader want to seek out that business and learn more from the people in that business.

Was that articulate enough for you?

It helps to imagine a conversation with your reader. For example, if you are writing to announce a meeting, imagine telling someone face-to-face about the meeting. That person would ask the following type of questions:

    • Why are we meeting?
    • When is it?
    • Where?
    • What’s the agenda?
    • Who will be there?
    • Do I have to attend? What if I can’t?
    • Do I need to prepare? How?

Business writing tips are not so different for every type of business.
