Is there any demand or money in science/technical writing?

Most of the articles I see out there are easy topics like how to paint your house, how to plan your vacation that anyone can write about, or in the typical niches everyone does (finance, health, etc.).

Is there any demand for expert science writing? I know computer and IT related topics are saturated as well, but I was thinking more along the lines of biology or physics.

I made good money doing that for about 20 years, I mean about $1 per word. You can learn a lot about technical writing at the Society of Technical Writers. Or join a local chapter, if there is one nearby, where you can rub shoulders with others in that field. I can't post a link yet, but you can find it easily enough by Googling for their organization.

Wow... $1/word?? I guess you mean real-life writing, not internet writing.

Any tips on where to find entry level freelance jobs and break into the market?

if you do a search for "article one partners" they have a CL listing right now for witer/researchers. They are science oriented. Don't know the pay.

Strange, even though I've published joint papers (with my professors), I never once thought about doing this as a living... Thanks for the insight! You guys are awesome! (In foresight, would any of you fine folks be interested in some well-written documents on mechanical and/or material engineering? )
