Best place to write articles for people?

I am looking to make a little extra money for the next few months.

I have looked on ODesk and on freelancer and have tried to locate people but there are all random Philippines people that are charging $1.00 for a 500 word article. I know these cant be great quality.

Where would you suggest looking or how do I actually get peoples attention when others are charging so little?

I am an English speaker, and have a lot of time right now to get articles done quickly.

Going rate is about $1 per 100 words isn't it? Unless you can write in a specialist area? I have paid between $1-$20 per 100 words, think it depends alot on where you are offering your services and who to.
 
Average for native English is about $1.50/100 words, and for non-native is about $1.00/100 words. I only hire native writers and pay $1.50-2.00 depending on the quality. Write some articles and try to sell them on DP, or check the 'hire a freelancer' forum frequently.
 
I am fine with $1.00 per 100 words, but it seems like the non native speakers are in there advertsing 500 word articles for $1.00

I cant do that. I am more than happy with $1.00 per 100 words

I get alot of quality articles from odesk, the key is to make detailed job posts of exactly what you are looking for then actually looking at the persons background and writing samples. At this point in the game I would never pay anyone $1 for 100 words, its just not worth it when there are many people out there willing to do it for less and are of the same quality.
 
There are two options to not only get attention but also capture the market virtually.

1) Start from Scratch: Start with low paying clients, make your niche in the market by selling top quality articles at low price. Ones demand increases, reduce the supply and increase the price. Slowly but steadily you will be standing far above the other writers and not only would you be an improved writer but you would also have built reputation among the members of that particular forum, website or market, which others can only dream.

2) Get Expertise: This is the best option to get paid what others can just dream to get. Most of the buyers pay more to expert writers who have dedicated themselves in to a particular field. No matter which field you choose just "be so good that they can't ignore you". Get the help of the professionals already working hard in the particular field which you are entering, keep acquiring ideas, thoughts and concepts. With gathering small drops, you will eventually become an ocean, thereafter you don't need to follow buyers they will follow you. This is my challenge. If it works, then just leave a thanks note, I will be glad that my advice was useful.

I wish to add that you can start on any of the forums or websites such Elance, Odesk just for initiation. I think if you start a service here in BHW, then you can churn out lots of money but make a sound strategy before you start things.

how do you know they cant be good quality.
Just because they charge a cheap price does not mean that the quality is bad. You just need to take a look you never know you might find a diamond in the ruff.
 
Try fiverr! Setup an awesome looking gig that can attract attention of people. There are people on fiverr who write 2 articles of 500 words for 1 gig. You can try it for sure!

Where did you get paid $20 per 100 words?!
 
I would suggest you try Textbroker, depending on what your writing level is you can make between $3.50 to $8 or more per article. The pay is by levels so a level 3 is "good", level 4 is "Excellent" and 5 is "Professional". Level 5 writers make the most per article.When I made level 4 I was making $5 to $8 depending on word count. It may seem like low pay at first but you can work your way up to more. Another suggestion is eCopywriters. They also pay on a quality level but most articles are at least 2 cents per word. Articles are at least 345 words so that would make you $6.90 per article. You will have to submit a writing sample for both sites but it is worth it for steady work.
 
Why don't you offer your writing service in BHW? The rate is pretty reasonable here.
