Looking to article re-write!

Anyone know what the typical pay rate is for a 500 word article re write is?

Generally, it ranges between $2.5 to $3 but I still wonder why its so less, given the fact that the efforts put in by the writer is same. The time consumed to complete a rewrite is almost the same. I am still unsure if there is someone out there who gives more than this amount for a rewrite of 500 word article.
