What is the best method to ping articles?
Hey guys,
I've been writing on AC and other sites for awhile now, but never really did any kind of promotion, just let it happen naturally. I've been reading about pinging and how it helps index pages quickly, which I think could be quite helpful for AC and other sites like ezine.
However, I'm still a little bit confused on the subject and do not want to do anything that could put my account in jeopardy, as its purely WH. I don't see any reason it would be a problem, because if I'm understanding correctly it just alerts spiders that new content is up, correct?
Is it best to ping each article individually and directly? Or should I digg them seperately and ping the digg link? Can I just ping my profile and have it pick up everything new? Should that be a direct ping or through a bookmark?
Thanks for your help, I'm just a little confused about the subject.

Re: What is the best method to ping articles?
I use hxxp://pingoat.com/ it seems to work well and you can choose what categories you want to ping as well.
Pinging to my knowledge will not be looked down upon by Google or anything so it should not harm you at all.

Ok thanks. Is it best to do them all seperately or just do my user page? The spider will crawl all the links on the user page won't it?

Re: What is the best method to ping articles?
Don't submit all your AC articles to Digg. Digg will ban you. Been there and done that one. Get others to Digg maybe 1 or 2 articles each week for you. Write specifically for Digg topics. I have no idea on the crawling the links on the user page. Sorry about that. Just saw your comment about Digging and didn't want you to get hit with your Digg account being closed.

Re: What is the best method to ping articles?
I couldn't agree more about Digg...they are really quick to ban certain site urls, especially when being over submitted.
As ar as pinging, I just use Pingoat and Ping-o-matic.
Good luck

Thanks for the Digg tip guys, I didn't realize that.
Redtide- Are you pinging each one individually? Or just sending it to the user page?

I do not know if this is the "correct" method but I ping every published post

The person I have that does my bookmarking also pings them for me. Yeah, it would do no good to just ping your CP page, so you'll want to ping each article individually after it's published.
Keep in mind that the pinging is just to have them crawled for SE indexing, so it's not a mandatory step to take. It just helps them get indexed a little faster.
