Thumbs up Dragon Naturally Speaking Tips

    Hello

Tried searching but couldnt find anything.

Just wanted to let everyone know who is using dragon naturally speaking 2 tips that I found really helped.

    1) USB mic works much better than your laptop's. Try to get a mic that has noise cancellation too.

    2) Take some time to train your program. Do not skip the tutorial. I skipped just to see and it could NOT recognize ANYTHING. If you go to tools and go to accuracy center you will find an option to train DNS. I spent 1.5 hrs just reading stories (charlie and the choc factory lol, and a success excerpt, highly motivating too). Trust me, the extra time is well worth it.

    The result:
Recognizes 95% ++ of my speech now. Only when I talk too fast or swear, it doesnt work lol

Right now it takes me about 20min to do a 600 word article. Need to get it down to 10.

Dont give up, its a really good program if you give it some time.

    Eg: all 600 words: 1st article 35min, 2nd 25 min, 3rd 20 min

If shaksquash can do 15-20 in less than 2 hours, there isnt any reason why we cant do at least 6 in 1 hour.

Solid post fcdude, without a doubt DNS takes training to recognize your speech patterns and bring up its accuracy levels. Probably 90% of the people in Shaqs thread that say it "doesn't work" are either not using a quality usb mic, or haven't taken the time to actually train the program.

I had some frustrating moments with DNS version 10 to begin with. Tried using the inbuilt laptop mic and some ancient pc mic both produced me to swear alot within the first paragraph.

So I bought a "Skype certified" cheapo mic, the results are amazing. The mic goes along way. And I managed 2 produce to articles in a hour.....whilst researching too.

I have both vista voice and DNS. I have no trouble with either of them but I do like DNS more.

My husband who has a strong accent have a better result with DNS than with vista voice recognition.

I cannot believe the HUGE difference in DNS and the Vista voice recognition. I have a heavy accent too. Vista became hopeless. DNS still has trouble with me but not nearly as bad. LOL

I have used both DNS and Windows 7 speech recon and I have to say without a doubt that Windows 7 is absolutely amazing. I don't have an accent so that may be why, but Windows 7 works amazing, much faster and much higher accuracy, plus with DNS it always makes my firefox run really slow.

On another note if you haven't downloaded Hypnotic writer from the downloads section, you should do it now. It is such a useful little program and helps you get writing easily.

I prefer dns as well. I dont have an accent but even without one the program had a hard time until I trained it. I personally like to train the program using the training material about successful traits--its a good reminder of what we need to do to succeed in any business

    cheers

I just got DNS10. It works like a charm. Very good.

Many will have issues when installing DNS 10 - with an error getting VC++ missing...blah.

I finally resolved following the download instruction in the link below. Use the download given in the part 3 ( official help page )
    Code:
    http://knowledgebase.nuance.com/view.asp?60VQ=KFHM
    OR
download VC++ runtime module directly from
    Code:
    http://download.scansoft.com/naturallyspeaking/10/DragonInstall.zip

Agreed, the first while I was using, I was speaking slowly with emphasis on enunciation. It worked fairly well, but speed and accuracy really jumped when I began talking as fast as I would normally, while still putting some concentration towards pronunciation.
