Can you put an affiliate link in a YouTube embedded code??

Hey guys, I'm wanting to know if it's possible to embed a video from an affiliate product that is not mine (provided by the product merchant) and place it on my blog. Then, when people watch the video my affiliate link has enabled the cookie tracking on their browser?

My reason for asking is that I am able to link to the merchants YouTube channel with an affiliate link, but is it at all possible that without the viewer actually being directed through to YouTube, they can watch the same video that's embedded on my website while also having the benefit of my affiliate link being tracked for the view? I would rather have people stay on my website rather than have to send traffic away from my website in order to have my affiliate link tracked from the view of the same video.

If it's possible are there any negatives in doing this?

If this isn't possible, that's okay, does anyone have any alternative solutions that may be possible? I heard of bubblePLY where you can insert an annotation on someone else's video with your affiliate link, but the website is down now, also another website I came across that apparently does a similar thing is also down. The thing is, the video that I would like to play has reference to the merchants domain, and if I have my link, and then their easy to remember URL, I would probably lose out on the possible affiliate sale if I used this approach. I appreciate any thoughts.

I'm unsure about what it is that you're asking, but it sounds like your affiliate program has given you an affiliate link that sets your cookie before redirecting the surfer to the program's Youtube channel. This is pretty bizarre in itself and not something I've heard of, but if that is indeed the case, then when the surfer clicks on your link, they will be sent to the program's site, your cookie will be set there, and then they will be redirected to the Youtube URL.

There's no way for you to set your own cookie from a Youtube page or via an embed. It just can't be done. The only way to set a cookie via an embed is to load your affiliate link in a hidden iframe on the same page that you are showing the embedded video (aka cookie stuffing). This is different from setting the cookie directly via the embed.

You can't link to external websites or set cookies using Youtube video annotations - you can only make clickable links in annotations if they are pointing to internal Youtube URLs (not external websites).

Thanks for the reply, I just wanted to confirm if it could be done or not as I wasn't 100% sure. I don't want to cookie stuff, but I understand how the process works in regards to how the merchant would set it up.

Ultimately where I was coming from, was that if the video itself helped to initiate a sale from the viewer, then if the embedded video is playing on my blog and resulted in a sale, ultimately I would make the commissions. The only way to do this, is to direct away from my site, to where the video is hosted, i.e. YouTube.

I was just wanting to see if it was possible to embed my affiliate link within the video so that when it plays on my site in an embedded form I am credited if the viewer who watched the video only by coming across my website, decided to purchase the product.

I will just link with the URL provided by the merchant, and the video will open up in a new domain.
