Will Craigslist Get you Affiliate Network Account Canceled?
I've heard that Craislist will contact your affiliate network to get your account canceled. Has anybody had any experience with this?
If this is common, what Affiliate Networks would be likely to ignore complaints and therefore be good for blackhatting Craigslist?

If you use craigslist, just put a gmail adress with an autoresponder set up, instead of giving an url in your ad, I don't think craigslist 's staff will pretend to be simple visitors and send an email for each and every ad to see which one will have an aff link in the reply

Re: Will Craigslist Get you Affiliate Network Account Canceled?
I've heard stories of some serious jerks on CL taking the time to report people to their affililate networks with the hopes of getting their accounts terminated. This would, of course, require them to find your affililate info and figure out who to report it too. More than likely, it's your competition trying to run you out of business (those little snitchin bitches). This doesn't happen very often, but the risk is still there.

you'd be surprised.. while im sure the craigslist staff dont respond to every single ad and check for responses with affiliate links, they do periodically check some of the ads out to make sure
also, gmail autoresponder doesnt play well with craigslist anymore.

Actually that was just a personnal thought, as I'm just starting CL spamming (I've posted my first ad like an hour ago )
Anyway, I need to give it a try to figure out by myself ^^
Hope I can still make a few bucks

No the gmail autoresponder technique works fine, but how people are using it is wrong.
The problem is in the "reply-to" they use a masked email address. Then everytime someone emails the masked email address that craigslist provides the email autoresponse doesn't happen.
Easy way to solve this is in the "reply-to" field simply use the email address directly.
So in the reply to field you'd see "bobisatool@gmail.com" instead of the craigslist generated one.
In my experience in the last week it has worked on every single ad I've put out.

Re: Will Craigslist Get you Affiliate Network Account Canceled?
there was someone not that long ago reporting to spambot..my friends affiliate program contacted her and told her just to not post in the city she was discovered in..i personally do put my link in my ad, and havent had an issue yet, "knock on wood" and i seem to get more replies that way then by setting up an autoresponder..but i am rapidly searching new ways to advertise to get away from CL all together

Re: Will Craigslist Get you Affiliate Network Account Canceled?
Many people will complain. Your competitors will complain before anyone else. I had an insurance sponsor call me and complain after I earned less than $100 on CL. Someone complained to him, told him it was EMAIL spam, I told him its nothing illegal but he seemed to know nothing about the internet, so I had to stop.

Re: Will Craigslist Get you Affiliate Network Account Canceled?
Bottom line, yes you can get your affiliate account cancelled using craigslist.
It's happened to me once and it was a costly mistake ($4,700 Costly) because they won't pay out whatever balance you have in your account when it gets cancelled.

Re: Will Craigslist Get you Affiliate Network Account Canceled?
Okay,
so lets get some specifics. how were you doing it? did you post a link to your website on CL or did you use an email reply? Did you use images? Who turned you in? A competitor or a customer?

Re: Will Craigslist Get you Affiliate Network Account Canceled?
You will never know who turns you in. Your affiliate will never tell you who did. I'm almost certain that CL staff (they are 15 on staff) doesn't personally report you to the affiliate, they leave it up to the craigslist community to monitor and flag as they see fit.
Mass cross posting on CL is not spam a definition of the can spam act, that's CL's own definition.
It is your competition flagging or reporting you. Depending on which realm of marketing you deal in that is mostly the case. If you are mass posting or just posting in the personal section, it's users that flag and report you.
I had it happen to me with the w4m, m4m personals section. They are pretty fed up with "spam" in that category.
Just keep a copy of your emails, never delete them. The consumer (for whichever section) initiated first contact with you. Sometimes you can prove this and get your account activated.
Also, make friends with your affiliate manager. They are there for a reason. With enough supporting documentation you MAY be able to get away with a smack on the hand instead of monies revoked.
