I think you answered your own question and content always has more value if its unique. Unfortunately I find the state of article spinning to be abysmal.

Nope, thats not correct. You can have all the article you want on your blog or landing page and it doesnt necessarily mean google will give you a great QS.

there are more factors not just one, such as bid on keyword, domain and content etc

the sum of these factors will determine your QS, take care of each factor in the equation and you'll do great
