I'm in the beginning stages of creating my first niche site which I intend to monetize using adsense. I'm using Long Tail Pro in its trial mode right now seeing if its something I would like to purchase. I entered a few keywords and it generated a large list. I was trying to figure out how to sort through the list to get to where I would want to be looking. obviously, "100" in the competition column is bad. I'm guessing I would be looking for keyword combos that have the highest global and local search counts and lowest competition number?

Here is one I picked that I thought was good. Do these numbers look reasonable? How many global/local searches is considered good? I'm just trying to get a basis for my further research. Thanks!

It depends on your niche trend and the competition,you may also go to GAT and Amazon/Ebay to check if there are a lot of your niche gadgets then come to a conclusion integrate..

Hi, Advertiser competition is adwords competition NOT seo competition. So the higher this is the better in some ways as it shows the kw is profitable.

What you really need to see is how competitive the SEO competition is. I believe with the free version you can't check the KC (keyword competition) but I think you can click on the keyword and it shows you the top ten results in google for the KW. you can then check the DA PR and backlinks of the sites that will be your competition.

I use the platinum version of long tail pro and it is brilliant. It has made me very lazy but I have found some great KW with it.
You should upgrade now or as soon as you can afford it.

Keyword research is the most important skill in search engine marketing by a mile.

Its 10 X more important than anything else you can learn. It is also the one thing that, in my opinion, you cannot and should not outsource. So learn it and invest in quality tools.

I'll give you a very useful tip for KW research, it's on thing that I do that really really changed my KW research for the better.

ALWAYS check a keywords history using google trends. If its on an upwards slope than thats great. If google shows 1000 searches you can be sure there is at least 1000 or maybe many more. If its on a downwards trend then stay away. The kw has had its day and if google says 1000 searches there may be only 30% of that now. Believe me they don't update the database very often.

You can find some gem keywords that have very little searches showing in google but have a steep upwards graph in google trends. Believe me about this, this will revolutionize your keyword research.

This in fact was very helpful for me too, I didn't take Google Trends into consideration for that purpose. Thank you very much sir I will start using it from now on in my KW researches
