OP, those 334 clicks, were they in the sports or tech niche? I know those two can be quite hard if you don't pick up the right keywords...

It is quite easy. Just google for adsense preview tools. You will see a bunch of options. Choose one site and then enter your url in their preview tool. You will get a bunch of advertiser urls and their ads.

Look through the ads to find advertisers who are completely irrelevant to your site. Also, look for amateurish sites that might be engaged in clever CPC bidding for your keyword. I usually knock off all small time advertisers and let the established brand names/company names and services advertise on my site.

Usually, I have had pretty good success when I have done a round of advertiser blocks. It is an individual thing and the tactic might not work in all niches, especially if the vast majority of advertisers in your niche are just cheapos.

P.S - In adsense, you will see a tab called block and allow ads. You have to use that to input the filtered urls that you don't want. Try to do both the http://www.domain.com and the www.domain.com urls. This is because adsense uses different display urls and different path urls when they display ads.

You are welcome. I don't think they give you all the advertisers but they are OK. Just refresh the tool again and again with your url or your keyword. Also, try doing it in different times of the day as some advertisers only participate in bidding during selective times.

I checked it out, one thing that is confusing me is that how will it give us an idea of how much that advertiser is paying? I mean on what basis do you choose the advertisers to filter out?

This is just guess work. If the site looks like crap or is basically offering something that is crap, you can just assume that he is bidding low as conversions should be bad for him.

This method is not perfect but it is definitely worth a go, especially when you are getting $0.01 clicks. Just leave the ads that interest you as a user, after you put yourself in the perspective of a reader who might have reached your site through organic search results. Just try to think of what they want to see and choose those advertisers accordingly.

You can only guess, but Keyword Spy for example gives you a pretty good idea about a website's daily budget and their average cost per click:

    Code:

It's definitely the niche and traffic.
Entertainment niche + 3rd world traffic = 1/100th cent per click.

When using the Google adsense preview tools, look for ads that lead to pages like the one below. You will find that one domain is listed and it leads to another with nothing but ads. Remember - do not click the ads, instead copy and paste them in to the url bar

    Code:

Great post buddy. I just did this last night, and my CTR is up significantly. I just checked my site, and all of the ads being shown are like 95% relevant.

Most probably this is site for some funny pictures or something like that. Adsense don't suck if you have good keywords, no program is paying 3-5$ for a click, there are keywords with price per click over 10$.

I think SpyFu can also tell you how many advertisers there are for a given keyword or url, what the cpc is, etc.
