Ranking these keywords

Similar questions may have been asked previously, but I don't know how to find them.

I found some keywords and I'm wondering how easy it would be to rank them.

-> 1000+ monthly searches
-> The first page of Google contains only the category pages, search pages and occassional product pages of big retailers / e-commerce sites such as Ebay, Walmart, Amazon etc
-> These are all very authoritative domains, but the ranking pages are often not optimised for the keyword and for the most part have zero backlinks
-> Given the nature of these sites, there are obviously no hidden PBN links at play
-> There are no obvious affiliate sites anywhere in sight (i.e. on the first several pages of search results)
-> KeywordRevealer thinks these keywords are super-easy, with competition scores < 10

I'm not sure how much can KeywordRevealer's score be trusted in this case, because going against all these highly authoritative domains may be more difficult than it seems.

What do you guys think?

Can you give an example of the keyword without giving it away, just something similar.

This sounds like ecommerce keyword to me and you will have hard time ranking review/affiliate site for an eccomerce keyword no matter what the KW difficulty tools say.

A few years ago this would have been an easy job, but today it's all about search intent like jiungsong and rinti already said. Your site doesn't match the type of site visitors expect (e.g. product page online store, shopping comparison site) and Google prefers for a term -> significantly harder.
 
Just a question out of curiosity:
Let's say you are trying to rank an ecommerce kw with a review site and you get poor result. What would happen if one day you convert your review website into an ecommerce? Would you gain ranking then?
 
Thanks everyone! Good thing I asked, because somehow I had completely missed out on the whole "e-commerce keyword" topic. Had a silo site almost planned out :)

Indeed, the keywords I have completely match that profile. I was really wondering, "Where the hell are all the affiliate sites?" Now I know.

It got me thinking along similar lines: so if Google wants to put only e-commerce sites on the first page for these keywords, what if I give Google what it wants? Like a dropshipping site maybe? Still not sure how it would perform against the big guys though.

The issue is the "big guys" have a lot of "PR" to throw around internally. It's how they rank for a term even when they have no links to the page and their title and h1/h2 is crap. They might not even have the exact query appear on the page! What the page does have is a lot of authority by virtue of being part of the domain.

Yeah, well it's normal for affiliate sites to outrank the big guys for "best blue widget" and "blue widget reviews" type of keywords. But these e-commerce keywords seem to be a special breed, so this may not apply.

Had the same situation, with one of my projects. The truth is, google loves different sources of content. Meaning a good mix, of ecommerce, forums, blogs and reviews. You might either nail with a blog or some relevant youtube videos.

I outranked all of them, there was simply no blog around and G loves a lot of content about the same topic. A lot of articles, some with video, some infographics. Every articles had at least one authority link and an image. Link building was a mix, of directories, forum threads and blog comments, with guest posting on top. Afterwards I did some tiered linked building to the guest posts.

Oh, nice. So this was for an e-commerce keyword? Was it in English or German?

German but it would work for English as well. I was going for cooking supplies in the Uzbek kitchen niche. Now there are many copycats around and their blogs also work.
 
So... were any of these e-commerce sites you brushed aside actively gunning for those keywords and did they have hundreds of products related to them?

If you think your typical affiliate site will push an e-commerce site, even a small business one with a couple of hundred products on it aside with ease, you're in for a huge shock.

No, they didn't give a fuck about selling somebody a tandoori oven. They had somewhat of related products. A typical affiliate won't you are right, something that looks like a serious blog and got wikipedia links, as there aren't a lot rich articles about uzbek culture might do.
