Keyword research and tools to use

Good evening people of BHW.

As the new years approaches, I have made a goal for 2017 dedicated to learning SEO and to create an amazon affiliate website for that purpose ( journey thread coming soon ).

That being said, the amount of information listed here on BHW is overwhelming. I have read a lot of journey threads as well as many SEO guides. There were, however, few things I could not find or understand for the beginning, so experienced opinion on these matters would be highly appreciated. So here goes:

1: Maybe I'm stupid, but I find it difficult to get a hand of keyword research. So I wonder which is the
best tool to use for this purpose? To check the competition, keyword ideas etc. I understand that some of you prefer one to another and some use few of them, but which tool would you suggest to get for the absolute beginner? It can be paid tool, I don't mind buying it, as long as it's worth it.

2: I wonder how many keywords do most people target per 1 niche website? For instance some people say they target 5k monthly searches keyword, but that doesn't mean that's the only keyword they are targeting, does it ? If I have 10 different keyword in the same niche that all have about 5k monthly searches, so do I target all of them with the same website, but different articles, or do I use different websites or do I mix them within articles without separating them? I hope the this makes sense?

These are the main questions I'm currently interested in, to better understand world of SEO as the topic is very vast and difficult to get a good understanding on, so I assume it will take a lot of time and practice

I have just come across your comment, you can get more information here and yes SEO is vast topic update your knowledge daily.
For KW research you can use online tools like Semrush, Keyword tool.io, uber suggests etc., In paid versions, you will get some more options for analyzing the KW's.

Well for Keyword Research i am using keyword planner, keywordtool.io, serps keyword research and semrush. Is there anything other than this? Or which is better among this?

For keyword research use semrush and for competition analysis use ahrefs. Those 2 are the only tools you need.

I too suggest Semrush and Aherfs which works effectively.

Use multiple tools (semrush, keywordtool.io etc) and combine their results. That will probably give you a better average result.

You should target as many keywords as are relevant to your nice. You'll want all the relevant traffic you can get, so don't limit to a specific amount of keywords.

So do you buy all of them tools or do you get them for free somewhere? semrush is a bit pricey per month and to have all paid tools is a bit of a luxury, am I wrong? Thanks

Thanks man, you are very helpful, I'll check that out for sure. One more question: is it possible to do high quality keyword research using free tools only or is it necessary
to have paid tools for better results? Thanks!

1. I suggesting SEMRUSH and Ahref, both are good for research keywords and competitiors.

2. If you need to use more keywords for single website, you can add more landing pages to target each keywords individually.

Good on you to setting a goal. While others have suggested paid tools like ahrefs etc. for a beginner it doesn't make sense.

Think of your website as an investment over a period of time. You can either invest big and hope it works, or you can slowly scale. For the first option the choices are limitless. Buy services and try to get ranked quickly. Or option 2, which is cheaper, slower but you will definitely like what you are doing if you are in for the long run.

For keyword research lookup kwfinder free account which gives you a few good keywords to start off with. Ubersuggest.io is also another decent option to get variations of keywords which you can then look up on kwfinder.

Start with 1 - 5 keywords and work in at as a quarterly goal and then scale up. I think if you focus on some 50 - 100 money keywords your site should start making you some decent money which can then be used to buy some tools and go more indepth.
