Hey guys,
This is Khalid from Passive Journal. I have been a successful affiliate marketer for last couple of years and I would love to share a detailed guide with you.
Before we go deep, here is a disclaimer:
If you think that you will be sleeping all day and earning $500/day, that is not gonna happen. You actually have to work your ass off to make good money. It is Passive Income but you have to take it to a certain level for this to become passive. It is all hard work before that. So if you are interested in a quick rich skim, I have nothing to offer you. I am sorry.
Now, let's start.
If you don't know what is Amazon Affiliate Marketing, it is an associate program offered by Amazon and one of the oldest affiliate earning methods. The commission is probably the lowest in the industry (From 4-10% on average) but there are a lot of things to consider here.
Amazon sells real products and they are a trustworthy brand. They have a huge number of customers and all these things matter when you are working on their affiliate program. On top of these, Amazon also offers you a 24 hour cookie service. Let's use an example:
Suppose, you have a website about bicycle. You do bicycle reviews there and you put on affiliate links from Amazon here and there. Now, when someone visits your website and goes to Amazon clicking one of your links, you get nothing.
But when that person buys something on Amazon within the next 24 hours (It doesn't have to be bicycle, it can be anything), you get a percentage of that as an affiliate.
The conversion ration is around 10% on average if you have a decent site.
Now, let's divide what you have to do in steps.
Step 1: Keyword Research
Researching keyword for Amazon affiliate program is a bit different than anything else out there. Here, you won't be looking for keywords with high search volumes. You will be looking for keywords that have monthly search of around 5000 in USA. Going too big will result in tough competition, going too small will result in less commission.
When you are doing your research, make sure to add buying intent modifiers to your search term. So for example, if i want to create a website about bicycles, i have to find a keyword like these:
1. Best mountain bike
2. Best bicycle
3. Bicycle reviews
4. Road bike reviews
and etc.
You see, how i added modifiers like best or review at the beginning or end? That's because these are considered buying intent keywords. When people search using these modifiers, they are in an intention to buy something. So if they find your website and visit Amazon from there, the chances are high that they will buy something.
Step 2: Preparing Your Site
Content, Content & More content. Whatever you heard about content being the king is actually true. You have to make sure that you have huge volume of quality content about your niche on your website. Even if your site is crappy in terms of design, your content will save you. Do reviews of your niche, do informative articles, interviews, podcasts, YouTube show, anything and everything you can to build an audience.
Step 3: SEO
This is crucial and the main idea is to hold patience. Be traditional if you don't want to use PBNs. Use tthese methods:
One expert tip: Try to have a clean backlink profile. That will give you a better price when you are trying to sell the site.
Step 4: Add Amazon Links
Simply apply to Amazon associate program and add links in your website. Here's a few good examples for you to check:
www.TinyFry.com
www.Coustii.com
www.FiveToolSchool.com
Step 5: Invest Your Income Back in More Content & SEO
There's nothing much to explain here. The title says it all.
Step 6: Selling or Multiplying
I prefer selling sites but if you want, you can keep that existing site which is earning and go for a new one in the same format. If you want to sell sites, the best places are Empireflippers & FE International. Your site will have to make at least $500/month to sell in Empire Flippers and it has to make at least $10k a year to sell in FE International. Also, you can try Flippa if your site makes less (I don't recommend Flippa).
Keep studying. Nothing is difficult if you invest time in studying. Read & experiment. I was published here in Nichepursuits once with my story, you can read that too.
My final suggestion: Don't just plan. Try to swim, make a few mistakes, let your first 1-2 sites fail. You will learn a lot.
I will be happy to answer any questions you got.
