Haha you just said one of my best techniques (yes I said technique, so what) for pickin up girls at the bar. I always tell them I hope we can be friends. This does a few things.
First it disarms the girl, she sees you as less of a threat.
Two, she starts to wonder. "What is he not into me or something?" Now the ball is in their court and they usually start to try and impress you.
I've been using this for a long time and it works 90% of the time. You'd be surprised at how quickly you jump out of that friends zone if you know what you're doing, sometimes even the same night.
