I have a business that I can do with anyone who speaks english. .co.uk and .com.au are obvious. What other domains may I be interested in? Where can I actually register the domains that I am talking about?

I have looked around the internet and have tried to find where to register .co.uk and .com.au domains but there are so many and they look spammy. Who are the authorities? It's like trying to register domains on another planet :) 1and1.com always worked for me in the us, but 1and1.co.uk assumes that I have a UK address. Where do we go for these other countries?

We need to all get international!

Thanks for any input!

I ended up buying one before any of you guys posted at a different place that cost a little more, but I only had one to buy at the moment so a couple bucks difference wasn't too bad. Now I am looking for a forwarding number in the UK. I see places I can get some like 0844 and such but in my limited overseas understanding I think those are undesirable. Any ideas on free or cheap forwarding numbers?

Thanks guys

com.au you wont get without physical AU adress.
.ca and co.uk are possible to get.

you actually need a australian ABN number to get a .com.au. To get one of these you need to be an aussie taxpayer.

(thats why it's so damn hard to get .com.au links)

I'd be also targeting India and Hong Kong if you're targeting english speaking nations

Yep, agreed with the .com.au - you need to have an ABN which is only available for us tax payers because you need a tax file number to go along with it plus a local (not PO Box) address. Not to mention that if you finally get an ABN, the domain name company has to verify that it actually is related to your business. In a way it's good that it's strict though.

I think all you need is an ABN, which requires a local address. Don't think tax file number (TFN) is a must.
There's probably ways to go around this. E.g. find an accounting service to use as the local address.

You need ABN number not the TFN. I have business here and have domains as well. They ask straight away your ABN number before you register so its very hard to book the domain in AU...
