i had a similar thing happen to me although my "friend" started hitting up my market hard after me teaching them pretty much everything... basically went behind my back and thought i wouldnt find out! stupid!!!!!

however they really didnt know what they where doing, and you could tell... they where using social media and it didnt last very long, my main domains still ranking high... theres no where to be seen....

close call - but lesson learnt!
