I dont understand?

Hey guys.

I own a site that is currently on the 3rd page of google. After about 2 weeks of SEO I have seen no change in the SERPS.

So far I have posted a few articles here and there as well as done some SB blasts. And made some backlinks on about 20 forums..

The bit I don't understand is, the site that is ranked #1 only has 2 backlinks?

And as far as I can tell my website is optimized far better for on site SEO..

Can someone help me out?

You'll want to backlink the backlinks you have pointed at your site as well as build more links to your site... Rome wasn't built in a day (or 2 weeks) so just keep at it.

I realize that. But why is the other site #1 with 2 Backlinks? It doesn't make sense.
OH also I forgot to mention. If you search my keyword in Australian google it is #1 (I am from Australia)

That other site could be a lot older, the backlinks they have could be stronger, the backlinks they have could be backlinked wtih a lot of backlinks or maybe you are just not seeing all their backlinks.

Exactly.

Maybe (and most probably) you are looking the wrong number of backlinks

Usually, on Site Explorer when you check the backlinks it gives different results with WWW and without it so check both of them

To really answer that would take some real time and energy by analyzing your site, your on and offsite SEO, your competition, their on and offsite SEO... it's not an easy question to answer without a bunch of investigation.

Because you often access and search your site from an Australian ip. It will naturally have more local results as a consequence.

How a site with 2 backlinks can outrank you:
The few backlinks are strong ones, and yours are weak as hell (comments usually aren't the strongest type, OK, it depends on several factors)
maybe an exact match domain,
an older domain etc.
And right, don't forget to check bl for www and without www, in yahoo site explorer, not google site: .
Maybe your onsite seo is not optimized for that niche (as some suggested the keyword densitym lsi's etc that google sees as optimal may be different from keyword to keyword).
Or your site has bad onsite seo (keyword stuffing, duplicate content) penalties.
Maybe your site gets a penalty for what type of site it is, seems like google changed its algorithm that made ecommerce sites drop etc.

Why there is a difference between google.com and google.au(?):
Maybe you got an local domain like .au, which isn't meant to be international, google includes that in it's algorithm.
If you got a com domain, maybe you forgot to set it to international in google webmaster tools, the other site did.
Maybe your Backlinks are local ones.

Log out of google if you have an account, clear your cookies and cache and try again, maybe its personalized search results for you.

Lot's of factors, I hope that helped a little bit.
