Say you want do 50 blog comments for your money site which of the following would help the most for moving up the SERPs? The assumption is that the 50 sites are nonrelevant to your niche.

50 PR7-PR5, all NoFollow
vs
50 PR4-PR2, all DFollow

Also is having like 50 PR5-PR6 dfollow better than like 500-1000 PR 0,1,2 comment links? Just trying assess what sort of values a particular PR comment can have in helping your site rank like in the top 3 of the SERPs for low to mid competition keywords. It is understood that having relevant high PR comment links as the best, but what about irrelevant sites with high PR and also whether being NF vs DF.

So what do you guys think?

i would choose 50 PR4-2 Do follow.

and take the 50 PR5-6 as well. Thats the best.

So is it a waste of time to leave any comments on any NF high PR sites? Should I just skip these sites even with PRs of 6,7, or even 8? It is better to focus on all DF sites with at least PR3 and higher as long as like there isn't like 100s of other outbound comment links on that page? Right now I'm focusing on finding as many PR6-4 DF sites (so not too many PR7 or higher sites) to build a list of these sites. I don't know if focusing on PR3-1 DF sites is worth it as much since I think we need a ton more of these to improve rankings compared to PR6-4.

Dfollow is great for building google rank, but Nfollow still plays a part in yahoo and bing, so do both

So when it comes to DF comments should we focus on pages with PR of 4 and above since it takes less links to rank higher?

Google, Yahoo and Bing all support nofollow, so building nofollow links is close to useless.

A lot of people on the forum think that nofollow carries a serp benefit, but I am dead against that.

There is one thing we know for sure about nofollow as it's stated on Google webmaster support - nofollow links do not pass PageRank. Therefore, as regards the original question, pagerank is irrelevant to the nofollow links.

Others will tell you conflicting things about nofollow. It's pretty much in 2 groups:

1) People who say that google has moved on from nofollow and uses other factors to judge the serp benefit of links.

2) People (such as myself) who say that nofollow links are still very helpful to Google in weeding out untrustworthy, user generated spam links. Therefore they pass no serp benefits.

So overall then having like 50 PR5-PR2 dfollow links will have more impact on improving the ranking of a site than having 50 PR7-PR6 nofollow links? Is it beneficial to have dfollow comments from sites with less than PR3 or just focus on sites with PR3 and higher since it will require lesser amount of links with the higher PR sites? Do we know how much more powerful is say a PR5 comment backlink compared to a PR2 comment backlink? Like is 1 PR5 link is equal to like 20 PR2 links? Any ratios or factors that anyone is aware of?

It also depends on how easy is your method of posting. If it is fast / uncomplicated, ignore the nofollow tag and post there too. 5-7 % (at least) of all the webmasters switch their df / nf rule once every 2-3 months. So you could end up with 5% more df or 7 % less nf in the future.

As for the ratio it's hard to say. If I were G I'd throw some randomness like for a given domain 20 1PR = 1 2PR, for another 23 1PR = 1 2PR the decision based on some randomly generated value. Not just for the laugh, skewing the algo behaviour abd thus it's perception by outsiders is always beneficial in preventing reverse engineering.

It's an exponential scale.

PR7 is many thousands of times better than PR4.

As you go up another step, the harder it is to get to the next step. PR7 is definitely less than 1% of the way to achieving PR9.

hat said, Google looks at many other factors besides PR.
