The sad reality is you need the luck despite how good your concept may be. I plan to venture into something similar, but I only want the social networking to be a tiny twist to the idea but not what defines it. I'm sure you having thought about your concept, realized the enormity of the project and also that a few details can make or brake it all.

I have thought about all this to a great level but I'm not at the capital raising stage yet. My sincere blessing to you and if there is any detail or obstacle where you may want a 2nd opinion, give me a shout, I may have thought about it already.
I completely agree. There are a ton of generic sites out there and honestly, as horrible as MySpace/Facebook is, it really is the UI and the userbase that makes the difference in my opinion. With the big two, it's really hard to pin down any one feature (or lack thereof) that's the dealbreaker, and while a smaller site might have all of those features, they also lack the userbase behind it as well as the presence of something to distinguish it from the herd. I also have (fairly detailed) plans for one but I really want to learn how the SEO/blackhat thing works intimately before even starting with that.

With that said, I'd definitely be interested in helping you moderate even if it was just for the experience of seeing one go up. Feel free to drop me a PM if you're still looking, r-webb-k. Thanks and good luck!
