is there a way to tell how what tool a site uses to generate its content?

there's a site which does not appear to be a blog and from looking at the page source, i don't see how the content is generated. I think it's a different spin on rss feeds, as it would seem a lot of work to glean these by hand.

whatever this site is doing works a lot better than i can get my sites to work.
